Oooh More Controversy

So,

Electrical terminals:

Crimp ...Solder...Or both?

A genuine question as I’m chopping up the harness on the Triphy project.

Got these to do ( at least ), I’ve unpicked the connectors & now want to shorten the wires without having additional joints.

I dunno man, there's a lot of movement around the headstock and all the vibration..

solder a wire and see how long it takes to break

I have done repairs on car doors in the past and they are going strong

There's not a great deal of places where it moves like you say the headstock and thats about it really

I do wonder why OE is crimped not soldered

Cost? Reliability? Longevity?

Hmmm ...

All of the above, but mainly cost/time.

The cable can be cut, stripped and crimped in auto machines

Wiring looms are then made up on a jig.

Soldering takes more time and not so easy on a cable loom production.

Also I’m struggling to find replacement terminals to fit the connector blocks, any ideas?

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the link to the electrical connectors, after a bit of rooting around I found exactly what I needed👍👍

Although I have to buy the blocks as well so needn’t have faffed around unpicking them and sticking a small screwdriver into my hand - every day’s a school day !

Oi, @Stu, do you know where I can get the old style optimate connectors at a reasonable price too?

I just used to put "optimate connectors" in ebay search :thumb:

At £3 a go? You've got to be joking!

Knowing what they are gets them for 69p.
