Bianco2564 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 My Dad was having a tidy out of some cupboards and found a scrapbook I made of a family holiday we went on in 1978.We went on a day trip to Calais on one of the SR.N4 hovercraft. All I remember is when it started of going up like being in a lift and how incredibly noisy it was.I pasted the ticket in the scrapbook, £32.50 return for 2 adults and 3 kidsNever see the likes of them again. And talking of machines we will never see again reminded me that my older brother went on a pleasure flight on Concorde.I'm envious he did that as that would have been an experience of a lifetime. Mr Fro Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 You can go down to Sandwich and see the apron (or whatever it's called), it's still there. Quote
Guest Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 I remember going on the hovercraft to France as a kid. Cramped and like you say very noisy but still brilliant. Quote
Bianco2564 Posted April 23, 2020 Author Posted April 23, 2020 Affix did a kit of it . I think we had one of those.Spitfire was better. Quote
fastbob Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Put guns on it . And some rocket launchers . Yeah ! Quote
S-Westerly Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Saw a US Marines one of those in the Persian Gulf a few years back. Their assault ships use them instead of old fashioned landing craft. Stealthy they are not as you can hear them coming from miles away. Bloody fast though. Quote
Old-codger Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I went on Concorde on a free junket once and the best bit is the take off and then the landing the force was amazing but my god it was cramped in there. Quote
husoi Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 When I went to this museum I got into the concorde, I don't think I would like to fly in it. so little space. Compared to a 777 or a 380 is a flying cupboardhttps://www.nms.ac.uk/explore-our-collections/stories/science-and-technology/concorde/ Quote

gogs01 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Southsea ? I used to watch hovercraft landing there when I was stationed at Eastney Barracks - in 1971.Didn't think they were still running (flying ?, sailing ?). Quote
