deetgrogstin Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Hi, I'm Deet. I dont yet own a bike but I'm wanting to get one. I need some advice tho. I need to know whats a good cheap beginner bike that can carry a little luggage. I'm 5'2 so I need something short. I plan to use it as my main transportation. Any advice is welcome as well as tips for being a short rider. Quote
James in Brum Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Do you have your CBT yet or maybe your A license? It will help people know more about what you are looking for. Do you know the route to legally riding? I am assuming you are UK based and realise as I type you may not be Quote
Rob Taylor Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Some sort of low rider cruiser style for your height I reckon. Honda and yamaha do plenty from 125 upwards and suitable for shorter riders. Not sure if you are restricted to 125 or not but I had a friend just under 5'02 and he had a yamaha xv535. I liked it so much that I ended up buying one and had it for a couple of years. Quote
Six30 Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 small cruiser style will be lower,go to few bike shops sit on a few, ........ or Quote
rennie Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Hello and Welcome I think you'll probably need to be looking at cruiser style bikesbut some shorter people do ride other styles of bike Quote
fastbob Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Aim to get your licence and then get one of these . Skip the 125 , you'll never get your money back . Honda 500 Rebel . Quote
WD-40 Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 If there's something that you like but the seat is a bit too high for your feet to touch the ground you can get lowering kits for some bikes and you can modify the seat to make it narrower and lower. Quote
skyrider Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 small cruiser style will be lower,go to few bike shops sit on a few, ........ or81OyF7A7ooL._AC_UY695_.jpg now they are what you call platform boots Quote
onesea Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 125cc looked after bought wisely can hold money..Aonther suggestion Kawasaki Vulcan...Again cruiser style. Quote
Rob Taylor Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Make sure you ride it first. Some cruisers have forward foot controls, so although you can touch the ground easily with both feet, you may not be able to comfortably ride it. My vn900 custom has forward controls and it's just about right for me and I'm 5'10. Quote
WD-40 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 This might give you some encouragement and inspiration Quote
Old-codger Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Thats all well and good but how does he stop at a junction or traffic lights or does he just balance it out for ages????????????????? Quote
Guest Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Watch Jocelin Snow to see how it's done! I think she's 5'1". Quote
WD-40 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Fair play to her. Where there's a will there's a way Quote
Tiggie Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Or just lift the bike down, why bother with ramps I can guarantee something would be getting damaged on me or the bike if I tried that Quote
Old-codger Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Yes she loads and unloads the bike but the only time she is on the bike at the end of the video she has to practically slide off the right side to get her foot down. Quote
Tiggie Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 She can certainly ride! She is Jocelyn Snow and has competed in the GS trophy. Quote
The Hitcher Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 She can certainly ride! She is Jocelyn Snow and has competed in the GS trophy. She certainly manages fine!, I know someone of similar size and she manages a newer shape R1 fine, can’t get her feet flat on the floor to save her life though . Quote
bonio Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 If you've got some ideas in mind, it might be worth check out how they'd fit you on https://cycle-ergo.com/. You pickt the bike, enter your height, select the "put feet on ground" option and it'll show you a graphic that will give you an idea of how near the ground your feet are going to be. As a beginner, I'd think you'd want to have your feet reasonably near the ground, more likehttps://i.imgur.com/4D4Kz30.png' alt='IMGUR>'>thanhttps://i.imgur.com/hElzukn.png' alt='IMGUR>'> Quote
