yeh couple of times , not for bike for cars,  covered for any vehicle including bikes.

they use a garage of breakdown service near to your location , good service both times .

If we’re on rescuemycar here I have used for bike and car. No complaints.

Car they got started.

Bike had puncture 20 miles from home, they wanted to take me to tyre shop for new tyre as per policy.  Then I pointed out where home was and he agreed by time they found tyre shop that could do bike etc it was easier to get me home.

I understand that recovery long distance is on relay system so not necessarily quick. It’s in the small print.

They also do optional pay £20 per call out if you want to be cheap.

My misses is involved in running a fleet of cars & vans, one of the big name recovery company’s recovered a car for her and lost it!

In the end after a week or so of incompetence the way she found it was by calling the police and reporting it stolen!
Apparently it was fun phone call “I am calling to report a stolen car”, “when was it stolen” “well….”

Thanks @Six30 I have arranged cover for Carol and myself which will start 31st Aug 10 days before insurance runs out and when you consider 3 bikes and 2 cars between us less than £120 is very good value.

Cheers

Ian

Right you all need to start looking at cash back sites 😂 not just for the cash back but the offers they have.

I thought I had best check with the wife before quoting numbers 😁

So AA for both of us recovery and road side assistance £106.

Quidco cash back £36.00

Quidco boost one off offer £25.00

Quidco offer for Aa currently 30 the twats 😂

So that's just over 40 quid for both of us for anything either of us drive

We were with the AA previously we just let it lapse till renewal as a new customer kicked in, could have gon rac but cash back was better with aa.

So how come the AA told me the cheapest for two people roadside assistance and recovery, no home cover, was £157?

Because you went direct to the AA I presume, our renewal was daft price too, that's why we let it lapse and waited, joined back up as new customer via Quidco, cash back sites have offers on things like recovery and insurance that you never get direct, then they give you money back too 😁

I'm thinking of starting my own breakdown company. So far today I've dragged a trailer off the road where the wheel has come off. That's up the drive waiting for the guy to come tomorrow with a new wheel. Then when he'd gone and I was having my tea there was a bang and a car has come off the hill and through the field. So I've just spent the past couple of hours sorting that out. There's no mobile signal round here so anything that goes wrong causes chaos.

Green Flag every time ... easy, cheap and get to you quick. My motorcycle and campervan are with them. The Aygo and the Transit are covered by a business contract with the AA so I don’t have to pay for them ... which is nice ...

Green flag doesn't work for us as they cover the vehicle not the driver. With two of having two cars and two bikes it works out expensive covering four vehicles. Cheaper to cover ourselves for any vehicle.

I have to say that one of the incidents on the hill yesterday the person tried calling the AA who they are with, they weren't interested. In the end we got a tractor and pulled them out of the field.

Aa= breakdown cover not Accident cover ...We will deal with but only if customer agrees we charge their insurance company or they self fund .

With green flag through the Caravan club. Covers 2 cars, motorbike, caravan. Accident recovery. If on holiday will recover to holiday destination and if can’t get it fixed there will recovery back to home address. Driver illness also covered.

Last time I was offered AA the agent said no when I asked for caravan coverage. Not sure if this has changed.

Not specific caravan cover but anything within the t&c limits being towed is covered

After a few weeks when you cancel you can re join aa as new customer, use cash back site, get cover for way less than using aa direct.

I like aa, lots have limits on van sizes, I called them out with a lwb twin wheel transit and a trailer, AA guy turned up and said that's not happening, he just rang a commercial recovery and chatted till they turned up.

We like the AA as we have a number of older vehicles in our possession.  We've managed to save a few hundred quid over the past couple of years by ringing them up and threatening to leave - they end up reducing the premium to match the new member price.  Whatever happened to loyalty discount?  (They've also fixed our price for the next renewal as well...)

That's what they offered to me, but it's still £157 without home cover as opposed to £107 with home cover with GEM. They originally wanted £206, which made me feel a bit ripped off for having stuck with them for 21 years. I don't like companies that penalise existing customers.

They don't penalise existing customers, they just don't care about them. They make money at the point of sale, after that what can happen? They can only lose money on you 😜

I think they need to rethink their strategy. I was with the AA for 21 years and called them out once. So on that basis I was a good source of income for them. It would have been worth them making an effort to retain my custom.

One thing recovery companies do not appreciate is when you call 2 to one brake down and make it a race.

Many moons ago as students a miscommunication and we let it run.

When I phoned to cancel mine 3 hours later as the other company had arrived, I had asked first about expected ETA of recovery. they had not allocated a truck yet.   The girl on phone still gave a big lecture and threatened all sorts for wasting time.

I had to call green flag not long ago, the guy that turned up with a regular car truck and was griping about how they never send out proper bike vans.. apparently the management like to keep those for themselves to cart their own bikes about to track days 😅

Remember green flag are a 'franchise' type of arrangement ..

Otherwise think they would be a bit busy with this many employees

It sounded vaguely plausible but I always assumed they just don't have many bike vans, given we make up about 1% of road users it wouldn't be economical when you can strap a bike to a car truck easily enough.

Very few have dedicated bike vans apart from the likes of SOS .we have 0 and i believe our orange counterparts have similar ..

If a ' garage agent/greenflag ' have a dedicated bike van it would be highly underused and hence why used by the owners.

The trucks have a dolly that is used to winch bikes on and off.

Most vans can convert their car recovery dolly into a motorbike trailer but these  are limited to weights/length ( generally no large tourers or the bigger cruisers).

If you generally get a breakdown agent moaning about recovering bikes it is because they don't know what they are doing or lack the proper equipment or confidence so be very vigilant of how your bike is recovered and if you're not happy tell them to stop !.

If you ever have any concerns under the yellow company cover and it's not a yellow company patrol  dealing with you , you can request to have a yellow attend ..yes it extends the length of time or you can also  express that only a yellow patrol attends  at the time of reporting the breakdown ( suggested for m/c punctures as plug kits are carried) ( again may be a bit longer wait but normally a qucker outcome)
