  1. We used to have the same thing going where some folks used to always get relieved on time while others regularly ended up doing an extra month away and then be pressurised to go back early so the other guy didn't have to do longer. If you had a regular back to back most guys were fair but there are still some chancers who'll buddy screw at the drop of a hat. With Covid if you're lucky enough to get away you have no idea if you'll do 3 months or 9.
  2. Hope there wasn't any bat on the menu.
  3. No walk today. Minus 3 and a wicked wind. No fun at all.
  4. I'd not be surprised but the season is over now so it's going to be October before there's another shoot.
  5. With my bike living outside and spending months 'resting in my absence my chain is probably going to need replacing in a few thousand miles. OEM is DID and is okay but anybody got any experience of other brands? Looking for long lasting and robust. Within reason cost isn't an issue and yes I'll change the sprockets at the same time.
  6. I've heard there were loads that never got shot over as most shoots didn't happen. Should be a lot of fat foxes this year!
  7. Solidly English me,and on my Ma's side borderers so lots of needle with jocks!
  8. After 15 years of paediatric nursing she ended up working for Leonard Cheshire which was much less stressful.
  9. Depends how gamey you like it. Personally I like them hung for about 7 days. Most bought pheasant tastes much like chicken imo as its not particularly gamey. Favourite game bird is either wild duck or wood pigeon.
  10. It was very nice as was the bottle of Medoc I washed it down with.
  11. Not sure you could tell as it'd be an "X".
  12. Don't feel too bad. Both my mate and I being "born again" bikers coming back to it after years away got stuck with high premiums and high excesses for the first year. He's in Surrey, I'm in Gloucestershire and both bikes were relatively high end. (His definitely, mine less so). His was garaged, mine not. Its all down to statistics. You'll hopefully be surprised how quickly the premiums drop over time.
  13. My wife was one of the nurses who set up the Newcastle Freeman ICU for kids. What got to her were babies born with unsurvivable problems who doctors basically tried things out on. The false hope to the parents was another thing especially as my wife literally cannot lie.
  14. The reason my wife stopped working on paediatric cardio-thoracic ICU. Too many wee ones dying while docs experimented.
  15. The jabs in the stomach would have been a treatment for rabies I guess. A colleague of mine got that for being bitten by a kitten in Mombasa port. As for the weird cancer -Agent Orange? Apparently caused cancers.
  16. We had a bracing 5 miles this morning. No snow but ground like iron (plus - no mud!) with a killer wind. Definitely needed thawing when I got home.
  17. Often with the word English added in before the c- word
  18. Just think that's what XTreme will be enjoying right now. At least I suppose we don't have to see his pictures of sun kissed semi deserts and rugged individualism. Quite miss it really.
  19. Same as last bloody weekend I suspect. It's getting like groundhog day round here.
  20. He gives at least once a year or did pre-Covid.
  21. I find a dry lube as needed along with the Cobrra works as good as anything. A lot of the roads round here are horribly gritty and if there's too much lube it becomes grinding paste. Love to know more about BMW's no maintenance chain and if it would fit the Strada if it did work....
  22. As I walked past the bike (covered) the wind caught the cover and I saw the state of the chain. Horror!. So spent a bloody cold hour cleaning and lubing it. Turned out the Cobrra was empty. Oops.
  23. I truly hate this and do wonder if in the long run it will have been worth the destruction we have visited on ourselves. Its the way we have just put up with it that amazes me (including myself here).
