  1. Got stuck with minding small demons tonight. Need lots of strong drink I think.
  2. Got one of those a few years ago, went straight to bin with lots of muttering and snarls. Almost as bad are the endless ads I get for bloody Saga or retirement living.
  3. Eskdalemuir Muir if I remember correctly.
  4. From Brampton there's a nice road to Longtown and then up towards Canonbie where you can go up Liddesdale then cut back into England at Newcastleton and go towards kielder and the North Tyne Valley. Done that a few times.
  5. Here in Gloucestershire it's difficult to dispose of them.Tips won't take them as of April 1st 2023. There's a lot of scallywags flytip them or chuck em in the canal.
  6. But you'd have to go to Doncaster!
  7. If I'm on the bike I'll boil water for coffee but that's about the limit. If I'm backpacking in hills somewhere then I'll carry stuff but mostly ridiculously expensive freeze dried food or sachets from outdoor shops; I'm only likely to do this for 2 nights max - plus maybe bacon and bread. Minimum weight though so no cans etc. More than 2 nights and it's hello hotel.
  8. My tyre fitter charges a small fee for the disposal of the old ones. I believe a lot of local waste sites won't accept old tyres and apparently even bicycle tyres are becoming problematic.
  9. I'd keep the stoat as it'll keep any rats away.
  10. Its an area I know quite well especially the NE corner of Cumbria and there's a lot of good albeit often small roads. I also add Co. Durham and Northumberland to my list.
  11. I use O2 but mainly because they give me the best roaming charges globally which is important for me. Not interested in Apple phones and got a decent deal on Samsung S20. Got until November then can review. I'll see what's on offer then.
  12. Your garage looks even more chaotic than most.
  13. Felt there was something wrong with my suspension, didn't feel right at all. Took it to MH Racing near Chippenham and he reckoned it had been set to the softest setting. Now I haven't touched it since the bike was new so quite how that happened I have no idea. Anyway he set it up and it feels completely different in a good way. Just need to get the new Michelin 6's fitted next week and it'll be right. My bank account less so.
  14. I was out and about on the bike today and the roads are 3rd World. Utterly dire. Saw one being "repaired ". Shovel some tar in and run a mini roller over it. How long would you think that will last? A couple of months max I'd say.
  15. Cupboard under the stairs where there's an IKEA cube thing which takes helmets and boots and a row of hooks for jackets and trousers of gear in use. Rest is in spare wardrobe upstairs with other sporting clothing.
  16. There's a hill in Bristol where the speed limit is 20 mph and buses and cars creeping down the hill regularly get passed by pedal bikes.
  17. I'll be booking my bike in for a set of road 6 GT on Monday at my local bike shop. Over £300 fitted. Loved the Metzlers but I find they go from looking fine to being almost bald really quick. Son in law rates the Michelins really high so giving them a go.
  18. Finally got to ride it home.
  19. Well it looks as if my problems with the bike are fixed. Tomorrow the weather is shite so may put off heading south until Saturday.
  20. First time I got pissed on beer it was Newcastle Brown. Haven't been a fan since.
  21. 1981 I was doing my 2nd Mates in Liverpool. We used to frequent a sleazy club called the Cabin. Most of its clientele were MN cadets, police cadets, student nurses or trainee Phys Ed teachers from I M Marsh. Strange substances were pretty rare there as any whiff of anything more esoteric than booze and tobacco would see any of us out on arses career wise. In the basement of this dive the condensed sweat used to drip off the ceilings so we used to put beer mats over the glasses.
  22. Cancelled the recovery as son in law is coming north on Wednesday so stopping with my dad until then. We collectively reckon it should be an easy enough job if you've got tools.
  23. A young man of my acquaintance has modified an electric/ pedal bike and it will apparently do about 40mph. He is a fully licensed biker but the machine in question is officially a pedal bike so no tax or insurance and no ppe required either. IMO its a deathtrap and I'm trying to discourage him from using it.
