  1. Here's some inspirations... https://runt-of-the-web.com/x-rated-snowmen#7
  2. Hate snow. can't see any purpose for that damn cold wet thing.
  3. You can remove the HDD and plug it to another device. There are even some artifacts that use HDD for removable drives. A network drive is nothing more than a desktop HDD unless is a SSD. Then you're stuffed.
  4. Yellow warning for snow up here* from 15:00 till tomorrow * here = Scotland
  5. You are always welcome to come round and help doing the garden
  6. True, but with daily backups it is more likely that they will be able to recover data than using your own device for storage an no backup
  7. That's one of the good things on online paid storage like onedrive or the likes. they have always a way to recover lost information and near unlimited storage. Not for private use but handy for business
  8. About books.. If you don't mind 2nd hand books I found this website to have loads very cheap ones. https://www.abebooks.co.uk/
  9. You will need backup for backup of backup to be on the safe side. Years ago I lost 500gb of photos stored in a faulty WD cloud drive. Memory sticks are a short term solution, they will lose data with time. CD's and DVD's will become damaged Old tape backup machines will also lose data with time. On the plus side, who wants to remember weddings?
  10. One other serie I really enjoyed watching a few years ago was House MD with Hugh Laurie. My style of grumpy bad temper straight to the point guy Maybe i'll be watching it again. At least isn't B&W
  11. I've been watching death in Paradise for the last few days. The end of the f@king world is a nice series too. Is either that or those b&W stupidly old movies.
  12. Whatever you do, don't eat chocolate in the fridge
  13. hence item 1
  14. Until is open keep it in a dry place as long temperature is around 20 to 23c. once you opened the package 1 - no need to store again because the big racoon took it and eat it (my preferred excuse) 2 - if any left keep it in the fridge's door at the top where temperature is not so cold if uneaten for several days. 3 - If you plan to finish it in the next few days then no need for fridge. What you don't want to do is have the chocolate melting and then put it in the fridge, depending on the cocoa content the elements will split and you have lumps of butter and sugar separated from the cocoa. The solution for this, melt the chocolate in low eat, mix it thoroughly and put it in the ice cubes tray, let it set and eat it
  15. I will definitely not going to use that on my shaft drive
  16. When you have americans listening to you on your phone and then accusing Chinese and Russians of spying. You have smart TV's listening to everything you say and Alexa being well documented to do the same. It's well known that posting on forums, sending emails, twitter crapface etc is actively scrutined. That your ISP knows which websites you have visited, for how long and where in the page you stopped for some reading. Where is well publicised that if you know how you can turn on anybody's laptop camera and see what is in range. I don't think worrying that a satellite is listening to you is that much of a problem.
  17. This is probably what we all going to end up with. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55625071 https://www.starlink.com/ Although £439 etpu and £84 a month is not a good starting point, it is new and likely for price to drop as it gets widely available.

    Smart Home?

I'm with you @Mississippi Bullfrog I don't want to have a house that is smarter than me I like the wifi camera so I get warning if someone gets close and I like the smart thermostat that runs the heating with no need to remember to turn it down every time I leave home. Things like "smart" washing machines that the only thing they do is being annoying I don't see the point. A washing machine is smart if would collect the clothes to be washed, sort them by colour and type, put the detergent and all the other stuff, turns itself on and wat the end puts the clothes to dry. Now, the last time I check that's called a maid.

    Smart Home?

I have a Honeywell thermostat that I can control with the phone and a samsung smartthings home hub. I make good use of the thermostat and the feature that recognises that I've left home and turns down the temp. The smartthings only good feature is the smart plugs that you can turn on and off with the phone. Other than that is useless. Have a manhattan freeview box that I quite like, allows to rewind shows and go on all main free VOD channels and youtube. Have a surveillance camera that I can watch on the phone other than that. a pretty dumb hoose
  20. What kind of barbarian are you??? getting a bike by its value?? Glad my babies can't hear you. imagine how depressed they would be.
  21. Then you will have car insurance too.. and of course all car repairs.
  22. Finally yesterday in 2 hrs I did what I couldn't in the whole f@cking weekend. Now just the shadow's carbs to go. At least the Pan is ready for MOT next month I even going to take the trailer with me just to show off
  23. The best solution I've found but I rarely use is to have a big cloth underneath the working area. the 4 ends of the cloth have small holes that I can use to hold in place with some rubber bands so it doesn't move away. But because I'm a moron I always think. "nah, is just a small job..."
  24. And pointless trying to get the nut with a magnet...
