Theo Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 hi all, i really want my pipes to pop crackle and bang on deceleration, ive seen others that do it... i ride a suzuki intruder 1800 I've got cobra dragsters, but they dont do it. Tried different filters, debaffled, no joy, once my bolt come loose form the exhaust flange which created an air leak, at the header, the bike done it beautifully then. But obviously a lot of heat coming out... so not ideal, any other suggestions on how to achieve this? Quote
Stu Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 You have discovered how to do it and that is by introducing air to the exhaust on over run Normally you have a secondary air system which does this for emissions suzuki call it a P.A.I.R valve Have a check to see if yours should have one and see if its been removed Quote
Theo Posted August 18, 2020 Author Posted August 18, 2020 Ahh ok, ill do some research on that, thanks man Quote

Or do I not lol, having a quick read it saying using blank plates will help prevent popping exhaust, so im assuming I want it free? Quote

Yes you want the air going in so it all needs to be fitted and working Quote
Theo Posted August 18, 2020 Author Posted August 18, 2020 My pipes are very loud, and not cheap either, helpfull comment though, well done Quote
fastbob Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 This post has made me smile . I've seen many posts , on the Harley Davidson Forum and others where folk get really concerned about how to prevent the dreaded Decel Popping . And yet here is a bloke who wants to actually achieve Decel Popping . I'm kind of with you on this . My Harley pops a bit , my last ER5 was like a firework display and many other bikes I've owned have done it .The best one was my GSX 1100 ET with a Vance and Hines megaphone of an exhaust. If I had a bike that didn't do it I'd certainly miss it . I'll have a word with my neighbor with the 1600 Marauder and ask if he gets any popping with completely unbaffled pipes . Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 The Bobber from stock is just on the verge of popping on decel. It makes a lovely burble with just a hint of popping. They got the stock system just right. And then folks go and change things and to my mind they ruin it. Quote
raesewell Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 May I suggest that anyone who thinks the loud pipes are somehow safer, goes on an advanced riding course if you want to be safer. Quote
husoi Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I struggle to understand why anyone enjoys riding a bike that sounds like a tractor... Quote
Guest Swagman Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Each to there own I guess, it just gets the general public more to hate about us bikers. Quote
husoi Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 True I really enjoy riding the pan and hear the whistle the engine makes Not to count that pedestrians actually look at me passing by and I don't see fury in their eyes Quote
geofferz Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 May I suggest that anyone who thinks the loud pipes are somehow safer, goes on an advanced riding course if you want to be safer. What's safer then - an advanced rider with loud pipes or an advanced rider with quiet pipes?! Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I ride a quiet bike and a louder bike. I get more thumbs up from motorists on the louder bike. What they don't like is how a quiet bike suddenly appears from out of nowhere. I get more aggression when riding the quiet bike, and more co-operation on the louder bike. But there's a difference between pipes that have presence and pipes that are just plain obnoxious. Loud pipes save lives is not an excuse to be a nob. Quote
Mr Fro Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 What's safer then - an advanced rider with loud pipes or an advanced rider with quiet pipes?! I think it depends. Those with "advanced" riding/driving qualifications who go just go about their business might see a benefit from louder pipes. Those with "advanced" qualifications who bang on about it ad nauseam are likely to get little benefit as other road users will see the all encompassing glow of their self righteous smugness from some considerable distance, thus rendering the loud pipes superfluous. I don't think they are safer , I think they are great ! If you want to ride with a stick up your arse go ahead . I've ridden several hundred thousand miles on all kinds of bikes mostly with loud pipes and I'm still here . It doesn't get much more advanced than that . Quote

It's the special aura that advanced qualification riders have. Us lesser mortals just don't have it. Quote
Marino Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 People are generally annoyed by motorcycles just because it is motorcycle. In Austria when they started research in order to limit access to some roads for motorcyclists, majority of interviewed people said they were just annoyed by bike presence.Than we have helped a lot by super loud pipes. Anyway I manage to ride just around one hour without dB killer, after that I can’t here myself. Therefore dB killer stays in. Popping and backfiring, I don’t care, I just enjoy to ride not to listen. raesewell Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 My point was that good riding (advanced or not) trumps loud pipes where safety is concerned. Quote
