Last day before SORN - Sun is shining but..........

Morning, how many hours is a minor service vs a major service usually? Bought used bike and have ridden it for about 150 miles but realised the fluid and everything is quite dirty so I think it's missed it's 12000 mile service.

Think? Should have bought one with it just done if non private.
Most garages charge Minor an hour, hour and a half depending on bike. 
major including valves add afew more, some bikes V4 and old duc's more so again if they aint used to working on them.

Phone up a Yamaha workshop and ask them. It doesn't cost anything to talk to them and see what they can offer.

One thing I can tell you is these engines are rock solid and good for huge miles. Oil and filter are cheap enough and half an hour to do. Bleed the brakes, half an hour. As long as no-one has butchered the fixings. Oil and adjust the chain check the brake pads, upgrade to sintered if you want more stopping power.

Even if you double the times you don't need to do any more, unless you really want to change the plugs. The valves don't need checking until 24,000 miles. Air filter doesn't need changing til 24,000 the same.

Thanks, the local shop who only charges 45 an hour is an MT specialist too - I've booked in for next Wednesday

Evening all - I did manage a ride-out (about 20M round trip).

 

Took me a couple of hours to warm up when I got home but worth it.

 

Bike now SORN until March.

First day of winter* and it shows. it's very white outside at 03:45. but, ever the optimist. its just 3 more weeks and the days will start to get longer again and just 13 weeks. or 91 days until the first day of spring.

Pretty horrible and it's one of those times when I'm really glad I can walk to work as it's just over 1 mile away. Bike is at home under its cover and in a deep freeze.  well, maybe not that deep as its just -1.

 

5th anniversary of buying the Africa Twin just slipped by, unnoticed. seems like a different lifetime. Before Covid. the new BC. and we were still in the single market. with freedom of movement. (our freedom of movement) but all change, and as far as I can see none of it for the better. but hey ho. I can see those sunlit uplands ahead.

 

It's always this time of year. the doldrums of winter that thoughts turn to the Summer.  When even sheltering in a bus stop due to a sudden sharp shower was no big deal. because it never got cold and I could see the blue sky approaching. Or there was that relief from the heat, finding a boulangerie with tables in the shade for a baguette. cold water and a wonderful cake. (with fresh raspberries)

It is also -7.5 outside. 

 

On the happy side it is now so cold the air is drier so defrosting my wife's car was quicker than usual. 

 

I think I shall focus on indoor tasks today.

Have to say as someone who likes winter sports and spent quite a few years in Canada as a boy I wish we had proper winters with snow - skiing, snow mobiling (that would upset the rambling assoc!), ice fishing etc. Our damp miserable winters are just horrible and pretty useless for any kind of outdoors fun.

Too true. I spent some time in Colorado. Winter was the best time of year - bright sunny days with blue skies, views that stretched a hundred miles down the edge of the Rockies, perhaps skiing on Saturday or just a walk round the park in the happy knowledge that the rattlers and the bears were all hibernating. Every now and the snow would settle even at our low elevation (6500ft) and we'd go sledding. Dang it I miss that place.

How am I gonna ride my bike if this was the case !!!

 

I do like snow, when I've gone to a different country and use their snow to do sports

Clear but freezing weather makes for some good landscapes. 

 

Bike is definitely going away and staying away now, unless we get an unexpected December warm spell! Be off it until about March now I expect.

Good morning. Decided to take the car to Manchester last night as for some strange reason Mrs. Fiddlesticks didn't fancy riding home in minus 4 degrees temperatures.

Same here Thursday... f***ing hate Manchester city roads routes and traffic are a mare, we would have saved half the travel time if on the bike but was committed to the car- small automatic car was a godsend but we luckly we only missed the first support act as thought we missed like most of it only good thing that they dont have a clean air zone for normal cars yet....

gig was good and easy going.

Snowed-in.

 

walk home this morning was “interesting” - especially the last part uphill to my house. Roads are dreadful.

 

honestly can’t remember the last time we had snow like this so early.

Yes we have 2 to 3 inches of proper snow!

no sign of any thawing yet.

As usual our cars are in the wrong order on the drive so I'll have to go out and clear them

just so we can swap them round ready to clear them again in the morning
