Bender Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 OK this is a bit random Since about the age of 12 I've been able to stop hiccups by physical means, compression of diaphragm and surrounding muscles is the best description I can give. I don't get how I have not been able to get others to do this, over time though I have improved on this and can pretty much stop them in their tracks without physical intervention. Is anyone else able to control them. Quote

If I drink a cold or iced fizzy drink it will give me hiccups, I then have one chance of getting rid of them right at the start and if they don’t go quickly enough I’ll have hiccups on n off for 3-4 days! 1 Quote
Tiggie Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 I'm usually fine but have noticed cake sets me off. Think I try and eat it too fast Quote

My wife bakes for cake Friday for the school she works at. It gives the staff something to look forward to and is very popular - but not with me. 1 Quote

Is anyone else able to control them. Usually I stop them with a slow long breath in then an even slower breath out while I relax my chest. A bit like a quick meditation. It works every time after the first or second hiccup Edited November 25, 2020 by husoi Quote
Bender Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 Amature lol, 2 is a fail. Nice to see someone else that can stop them. Quote
husoi Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 OI!! 2 because I can't be bothered dealing with it after first one Quote
geofferz Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Hold your breath for as long as you can - deprives the diaphragm of oxygen and the muscle can't operate. I think that's it anyway, always works for me. Quote
manxie49 Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Big deep breath in and hold it (although make sure you start breathing again before tuning blue and passing out ) , don't know why but it seems to work for me .... That said I only seem to get hiccups after eating spicy food for some reason... Quote
