Bender Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/13417952/next-generation-speed-cameras/ That's a scary bit of tech. Quote
Tiggie Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Yikes!! that is scary if it works as advertised Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Gloucestershire Police were trialling them last week in Stroud. Not only do they catch you speeding but also check if you are insured and taxed. Believe they nabbed about 10 people is a single afternoon. Quote
bonio Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Not sure it's as big a deal as the article says. The mobile speed cameras they currently use already have a one mile range (so at least as far as the new ones), and all that extra tech the article mentions is just about reducing the amount of admin for the copper should the case come to court. It probably means they can pare back the headcount in the traffic department even more. Quote
Bender Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Scamera vans don't operate in the dark, this is just a point and shoot hand held that can be deployed any where at anytime. You often see camera vans, sometimes it's too late, but an unmarked car parked up, no one is going to bat an eyelid. Quote
iangaryprice Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 North Wales Police have a camera van that can operate in the dark. They are also frequently using them in pairs, to catch motorists that speed up after passin gth eforst van because they think ther e won't ba nother oe near by. 2 Quote

Tiggie Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 From what I understand our jobs are to look out for spammers and keep @Six30 from only causing a minimum amount of flounces. Nothing about setting an example was mentioned Quote

S-Westerly Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Absolutely. I think people who drive uninsured should be punished more severely than is currently the case. So many horror stories about uninsured drivers killing innocents usually already under a driving ban etc. Quote
Guest Swagman Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 What annoys me is they can spend £10,000 on each camera but still cut local police on the streets because they can’t afford them, it’s just easier to nick a motorist/motorcyclist than catch a thief and it also brings in more revenue.
