So, while waiting for the other stud remover, i thought id try one I could get to with mole grips. used heat, plus gas, it snapped.

So, drilled with small bit then a 3mm bit so I can get extractor tool in, still wont move.. the extractor bit took hold really well I just cant get any force on it as its small. Mole grips actually broke a bit of steel off the jaws.

So with it being a 6mm stud, do I need to drill 4mm. Just wary of hitting the engine. And how much heat is too much or enough. I have a butane propane mix burner.

Also tempted to try left handed drill bits.. or send to a mechanic.

If it were me I would just punch a center mark in it and drill it out carefully, start with 2mm drill and work up in size.

Google helicoil kit, think screwifix have them.

I did center it and drill, but the extractor wont budge it.. Thats still the stud in there.

Keep drilling it, get a helicoil kit, you drill it all out, tap it then put helicoil insert in

Looks like you did good job keeping it central 👍

I'd definitely try left hand bits if you have them.

Personally I'd not be too bothered about drilling out to 6.5mm and then tapping it to M8. Helicoils can be a right pain when you come to take them out.

I did offer to show you how its done with the welder but was ignored. You younguns know best.

You wasnt ignored, I liked your comment. Ive seen the mig weld technique but was hoping to avoid it even though I have access to a welder.  I've not suggested I know best once or Id not be sharing the terrible progress. Like the sound of youngun though, can keep that up. :)

The method I was shown and have been using for over fifty years isn't just welding a nut to the end of a broken stud. Cheers John.

I would love all input if you have a tried and tested method buddy

Drilled too far, even left handed bits just took more width off the stud, extractors still wont budge. so went with a 5mm bit and careful but went too far and a little oil is seeping now. f#cking gutted to be honest. Im baffled how tough these studs are to remove. Even heated and applied plusgas. maybe its not hot enough. god knows but i think il ring someone and accept im useless.
