Is "pokey end" a technical engineering term? I haven't learnt that one yet.

Yeah, that was week 1 of the HNC.

Now, in the final year of the degree, we're in deep intellectual discussion about which end of it to hit with a hammer.

I get through a lot of terminal/smaller sized screwdrivers at work!

I have to buy my own originally but work replace broken/damaged tools if we wait long enough.

We have some cheap nasty ones atm that have neons/leds in the handle.

I carry at least 3 different ones in my pocket and quite often can't get terminals undone!

If you are looking to use them on bikes then you need to be buying JIS screwdrivers

Thanks Stu, never heard of JIS screw drivers, I'm just going to have a read up on them now.  They will be getting used on the bikes yes, so I want the right gear 👍

Has anyone heard of or used TOPTUL screwdrivers?  My neighbour mentioned them, I had a look on the net and they're eye wateringly expensive.

That's it though, any mention of dry March will be met churchillian defiance.

Everything is a trade off, if spending money is no problem then look at Swiss and German but for Joe average something that is not made of cheese and your not going to cry over if you loose it is enough.

My phillip/pozidrive get hammered into Rusty screws on a daily basis screw heads always snap first, I've never lost the end from a good screwdriver yet, snap a few bits with impact drivers.

Eventually they wear and you can tell when you loose the edges and they don't grip as well, at that point they usually get turned into a pointy Brad or a removable safety pin for my adjustable ladder.

My problem is I'm a sybarite at heart. I can be dry as a bloody desert when I'm on a ship but when I'm home a good meal without a glass of decent wine is just not the same.

its a Taiwanese brand.. very popular in the US, as a "Premium affordable". I would rather stick with "made in Germany" where possible. Brands like Wiha for screwdrivers in particular, or the slightly more affordable Wera which are made in the Czech Republic to German standards. Theres little need to look to the Far East for the best quality. The sort of tools that will last a lifetime. which are always preferable to me than a lifetime guarantee.. which really just means "you break it, we'll replace it" - I would rather spend a little more for something that just wont break at all, at usually the most inconvenient time.

Are screwdrivers with neons still allowed on industrial sites?
On most / all water authority sites they are banned.

Interesting but why? I'd not have thought they'd hazard the water?

Possibly because they create an electrical circuit through the body, using a properly insulated screwdriver in conjunction with a more suitable tester for live circuits. No idea if this is case but in some H&S reality will make some logical sense.
