Throttled
It was a car I had, that was in an accident with a deer which did quite a lot of front end damage and so it was an insurance job in a recommended garage. I found that part of the metal work that had been replaced had included the VIN plate, so that was now missing and parts of the bumper and radiator cover had been cable tied on. I took it back, showed the owner, who thanked me for going to him first and not the insurance company. It was all properly fixed, including a trip for him to the scrappy to find the VIN plate, so it could go back onto the car, and I got a free service.

onesea
I have seen the solenoid holding the brake on a 300t winch held on by a wooden wedge, then used for towing... Emergency release was to remove wedge, next to drum holding about 100t load... Edited April 29, 2021 by onesea

James in Brum
I rode my bike a mile to the garage with the Break calliper at the back not secured in place, just hanging on the disc. Lesson learned.

I've seen a car with the brake caliper not held on at all. A brand new Ford I once made the mistake of purchasing. It was discovered when I went to pick it up and the gear lever came off in my hand so it had to be hauled back into the workshop. It was the worst heap of junk I have had the misfortune to own. I used to take the rotor arm off an old rover that you could steal with a knife, I didn't fit it right one night, snapped in half, tube of glue and a roll of sellotape got me home.
