Wife does even less -just WhatsApp. Quote
Essem Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Same here - pattern developing. I use WhatsApp with friends and family, and am in 4 orums like this which map onto my hobbies/interests. Twitter and Facebook are not for me. On topic, when governments take over the press and media and impose draconian laws against free speech, it tells you all you need to know. An important aspect of a functional democracy, IMHO, is for losers being able to acknowledge/accept defeat. Russia lost the plot on that one 20 years ago, and dictatorships always seem to travel a similar path. 1 Quote

Mainly for the pages and groups etc. Occasionally posting the odd glamour shot when I'm posing. But I don't get involved in the keyboard warriors syndrome. I say to the kids, "never say owt on social media which in a pub would result in you getting a crack" And I think that's the problem, its nameless and shameless. Very few repercussions on the net. Oh. And far too much hate 5 Quote
Bender Posted April 15, 2022 Author Posted April 15, 2022 No sign of anything productive in terms of peace talks, pretty sure Russia is just going to them as a distraction and more lies to feed the domestic market. The moskva the pride of the black sea fleet now rests on the sea bed. Ukrain were reporting a strike against the ship hours before anything came out of Moscow, in true Russian fashion they started by denying anything had happened to the ship as hours went by this changed to there was a fire on board and it was not related to any attack, then we had fire under control and ship would be OK, ukrain said nope we hit it and its sinking. Russia still denied any attack on the ship and apparently started towing it to port, it sunk on the way there, still denied any attack. In a completely unrelated incident they have hit the factory where the anti ship missiles were made Quote
MikeHorton Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 I believe they may have tried a few tins of this with little success before admitting defeat 3 Quote
JRH Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 What Russia has said is probably factually correct. There was a fire that may have started in the ammo store which caused a ship wide fire and as a result the ship sank while being towed. they just left out that the initial cause of the fire starting was the 2 hits from anti ship missiles. 3 Quote

I wouldn't be surprised if they scuttled it so no evidence of missile strikes would be shown, if it was f**ked no point in having it on show for the world to see. 3 Quote
S-Westerly Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Notice they are threatening all sorts of reprisals for Ukrainians having the temerity to shoot something at them. Having spent weeks doing their level best to wreck the country while liberating it. Really do hate those badtards. Interesting Russians on some of our ships are having a hard time in some places. On another of our ships a bunch of Russians are due to go home and be replaced by Russians. The local shipping agents in the US Gulf are refusing to handle any Russians at all. Means they can't get off. A bit ambivalent about this myself as the guys on the ships aren't actually bad but they deserve the figurative slap up the head to wake themselves up to the realities which all too many of them refuse to admit. Glad I've got shot of mine. 3 Quote
Bender Posted April 15, 2022 Author Posted April 15, 2022 USA are confirming it was hit by Ukrainian missiles In other news Russia is condemning terrorist attacks by ukrain, I mean really Wtf 1 Quote

S-Westerly Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 (edited) The vid of her sinking clearly shows serious explosion damage on her port bow that looks as I'd it was not in an area you'd expect to be used for ammunition storage. Also the official Russian account said she sank under tow in rough weather. Obviously their definition of rough weather is different to anyone else's. But as they lie like flatfish all the time no surprise there. Grrrr. The vid of her being hit isn't her. It's a vid taken by the Norwegians conducting a live fire test on a redundant frigate in 2018. Not sure about the one of the sinking. Edited April 16, 2022 by S-Westerly 1 Quote

However I tend to distrust The News as much as I do Kevin from Facebook.. Quote
Bender Posted April 16, 2022 Author Posted April 16, 2022 Not entirely convinced thats the moskva it was both hit or self imoliated and sank in bad weather and heavy seas. Quote
Bender Posted April 16, 2022 Author Posted April 16, 2022 The ship was hit at 2am in rough seas. Quote
S-Westerly Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Yep, neither of the videos were of the Moskva. She was hit at 01:14 and the weather was bad. She put out a Mayday and apparently a Turkish freighter rescued some crew - TBC. Rumours are that many went down with the ship but that's all they are - rumours. 1 Quote

S-Westerly Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 There was a bizarre if sad report from an interview with the mother of a guy who's missing. She finished with a comment along the lines of " Who'd expect anything like this in peace time?" These poor saps don't actually believe they are locked into a war which doesn't look as if its going to be over any time soon. Quite what they think is going on I've no idea. Quote

Its a criminal offence in russia to use the word "war" or complain about it in any fashion whatsoever risking 10years plus in prison. BUT... that isn't stopping very quiet and subtle acts of rebellion. one example: people are replacing the price stickers in supermarkets with their own, and above the price isn't a description of the item... just a little statement, an attempt to get the reality of what's going on out to normal Russian shoppers. for example.
