  1. So it looks like summer may be on the way and I e already swapped the textile trousers for my arimid jeans and pulled the fleece lining out of my textile jacket. my jacket has some chest and arm vents but I'm wondering if I should commit to a full on summer jacket. I commute to work which takes just over an hour and is 50/50 motorway/London traffic. What jacket do you lot recommend for the hottest days of the year. There's plenty of A rated mesh jackets but these don't seem safe enough for a slide at speed. Knox do their AAA rated mesh second skin type jacket but at £380 it's also pricy for the few days of the year I'll use it. RST do an A rated mesh jacket with a built in airbag for £250 + subscription. For some reason the airbag version and the regular are both rated A. Or there's the RST ventilator which is AA at £170. I've had a flick through sbs and these are the ones that stand out. Ive ignored leather as I assume it would be hot as hell in London traffic.
  2. I'm not sure you have said how much you're willing to spend. You were on the new hornet but have you tried the old one. You'd get a 2013 hornet or cbr600f under £5, probably closer to £4k and they are reliable, look good and forgiving to us newer hamfisted riders.

    Insurance

Locks have never made any price difference on my quotes. So I never name them, then if my bike gets nicked and I've forgotten to lock it the insurance company can't withhold paying out. I do have a few locks on all the time but just no point declaring them. Try quoting without locks and then with some locks they have listed, see if it makes a difference
  4. Don't waste your money. Every 125 I've heard with an exhaust sounds terrible. Keep your money for better kit or wait until you get something bigger that's actually worth modding.
  5. Lots of used Japanese options. Honda cb125f/cb125r/cbr125. Suzuki gsxs125/gsxr125. Yamaha yzr125. There's lot of others from Chinese manufacturers, they are cheaper new but fall in value quick. Thanks to your post I've just seen my old 125 is on the market now, advertised at £400 more than i sold it for 1 year ago.
  6. I think there was something in the news recently that police are going to start using drones to catch out people sitting in the outside lanes.
  7. Currently in Crete amazed that anyone on 2 wheels is alive. Road rules seems to be guidelines at best. Wearing a helmet? Yes, no, maybe one that doesn't fit and the strap is closed, maybe one that looks like an old ashtray upside down. Pedestrian crossing rules depends on who's driving.
  8. First times I've felt bad for a BMW driver. Cyclist, driver and car all seemed physically fine. Although as the cyclist was on a hire bike they had no helmet or anything on so probably felt it physically later on. I'm sure everyone was a bit shook up after the fright though.
  9. This week the cyclist who decided not to stop for the red light on his Boris bike who promptly got bounced off it by a BMW and rolled 20ft. He got up and walked around a bit but I guess he felt it in the morning.
  10. I've been using these for the last year. They really cut out the wind noise but you can still hear a decent bit of what's around you. They block out too much to speak to someone in person. They're fairly comfortable and stay put.
  11. I saw what looked like a nice low milage bike recently. On seeing it the plastic had all faded, it was covered in marks and dents that weren't obvious in the auto trader ad. The whole thing looked like it had been fished from a shallow river. Reaffirmed my belief that they are just cowboys that are out to rid people of hard earned cash and nothing more.
  12. 02 5g, £8 per month, 20gb data, no roaming charges which is very important to me.
  13. We're in the middle of doing a bit of spring decorating and I've got to thinking how to store my kit. I commute on my bike 90% of the year so having a better way of keeping kit neat but accessable would be great. I've seen ads for all in one storage that you could hang on the wall that holds your lid, gloves and jacket. Has anyone used something like these. Do they work well or do you end up scratching the walls with your stuff.
  14. In central London this week. Stopped at traffic lights behind 5 cars all turning right, with indicators on. BMW zooms up behind me and as there's no cars parked decides to slip up through the empty spaces to the top.
  15. Forgot to advertise this properly. Box and original 3 keys. Can deliver in and around London.
  16. Fixing slow puncture in the car. Off buying a few gallons of paint and all the bits needed to redo the interior of the house. Lining up to spend all Easter painting.
  17. Keep practicing. I did the exact same. Foot down on uturn but the rest was all fine. I did some practice on my 125, booked a half day with the training school. Passed 2nd time around. You can do it. It's all in your head. Get used to full lock turns in your 125.
  18. I've a jacket and trousers from armr ingot from SBS about 4 years ago. Wear it when it's bucketing down. Fully waterproof, light as there's no lining or protection (got all that under) soft around the neck. Still good as new after 4 winters. Bad points, it's black, not a good idea for winter, it would be great if it had a pocket that held the keys to my locks. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/390564
  19. Father in law gave us one at Christmas. We've used it a lot since. Just don't over pack the thing. Did chicken thighs one day and was great. Tried fitting too much in and some of it was cooked and other parts raw. Clues in the name. Let enough space for air to flow.
  20. I didn't realise they eat up tyres. Why do they wear out tyree faster than a standard ICE engine?
  21. Sorted now, found someone to transport it for a good price. Update. FYI The cheapest quotes I got was through Shiply.com a comparison site.
  22. I think I've sourced a new bike but will need it delivered. It's 300 miles / 5 hour each way. That's a bit longer than what I would like to do on day one with the bike. Can anyone recommend me someone that would deliver it for me. Online quote from anyvan is coming in about 270. Any recommendations that might do it cheaper and still do it safely. I know it's a long way so probably won't get much better than that.
  23. Check what cover comes with. Will it cover your modifications, your helmet and other kit, allow passengers, riding other bikes, does it have legal cover etc. You'll need to click on each to find out but I'd avoid anyone with bad customer service reviews. Claiming on motor insurance is a nightmare as your cover is usually split between different sub companies. I can't say who is bad but price isn't everything
