Especially if a car has auto DLR it should auto switch lights on front and rear once it gets dark.

Why am I getting wet
daveinlim replied to daveinlim's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I see your idea but it's too much water to just be condensation. I think it's coming in the rainseal zip then pooling so it's seeping through the Oxford jacket over time -
Why am I getting wet
daveinlim replied to daveinlim's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
My jacket and trousers is laminated so I thought that plus the waterproof onesie would keep me dry. I've ordered some nixwax to hopefully improve the laminate on the jacket. There must be water getting in through the zip in the rainseal suit. Although I'm not sure how. -
I think most people never check their cars. They don't check tyre pressure, oil etc so don't check rear lights are working either. Some could be DLR but I think most that I've seen on the motorway just have busy fuses or bulbs

We've all seen the cold and rain roll in this week. I've been dressed for the weather but still getting wet. I'm wearing a Oxford hinterland jacket and trousers plus a Oxford rainseal one piece over suit. Gloves boots helmet too. I've been out in heavy rain twice this week. Both times I was dry but my belly was wet. Rain is getting into the suit and must be pooling and soaking through my jacket. The rest of me was bone dry including my chest and legs so I don't know what's happening. The times I got wet were going home from work which isn't too bad. But as the winter hits I don't want to get to work wet.

It's getting dark and rainy this week. The amount of cars on the roads with broken lights. This week I've particularly noticed a lot of cars with ok front light but no rear lights at all so in the hammering rain at night these dark cars just appear from nowhere.

Sorry to hear about your husband. Hopefully his recovery is quick as can be. I had an accident last year. Other driver admitted fault immediately. My bike was written off and my injuries are not too serious. I had never had an accident in a car or on a bike before so this was all new. My insurer was great at getting my bike written off, getting replacement vehicle but a year later the personal injury claim is ongoing. Check if your husband has any other insurances like income protection through work that may be able to pay his wages or mortgage while he recovers. I think it's worth speaking to someone like White Dalton who are specialist bike accident solicitors and compare what they can do Vs his insurance in house solicitors. I kind of panicked and just said yes to insurance suggestions which was a rookie error. Best of luck with it all. It's a long road but once you get the medical treatment plan and the solicitor in place it takes a lot of the pressure off.

DAS course recommendations
daveinlim replied to CBRH0nda's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
I was on a 125 for a few years, did my DAS with phoenix in crystal palace. Really nice guys, no pressure during the lessons and they recognised that everyone had different levels of experience and thought us more than just the test. Price was fair. They have mostly honda cb650r or if you're a little short for them they have lowered kawi z650. -
Legal protection is good to have and so is breakdown cover. AA and RAC won't collect you and your bike in an accident, they will charge you as if you're not a customer. It's something I found out the hard way. But my insurer took care of collecting me and my bike as I had that in the policy.

They all have 3rd party companies that they palm off claims to. One will do your bike, another might do the other drivers, another will do your helmet and accessories claim, another will do your court appearance, another for hire bike, another for any compensation you claim. So it doesn't matter much they all hand you over, very little bar the initial conversation actually gets done by the insurer. Keep in mind in the event of a court case and you lose you could be liable to then pay the cost of hire bike/car storage fees etc depending on circumstances. Also even the most straightforward claim could take over a year. Customer care is almost non existent in the insurance industry once they have your cash. Pick the most comprehensive policy you can afford and be as safe as you can.

Mrs had COVID recently, work said stay home if you're unwell. I was already in the office. My work said stay put unless you feel too unwell to stay. Govt guidance to HR departments is just treat it like any other illness like flu etc. Most people are vaccinated and I don't think we could afford another lockdown.

How do you find the difference between the CBR and the hornet. I've a cbr600f too and contemplating a change. But I'm worried this would be a bit bland.

I saw one of these for the first time today, parked up. I hadn't been a fan of the stock photos online but in all black in person it looked great. Rumours of there being a good chunk of power available with a remap makes it a nice option too. Photo is a bit crap as I was in a rush.

I spend a lot of time in Mayfair. I'd never recommend anyone live here.

Chris van Tulleken Ultra-Processed People: Why Do We All Eat Stuff That Isn’t Food … and Why Can’t We Stop? NHS doctor & researcher about all the weird stuff in food. Interesting read. If you start reading labels you start to see how similar almost all foods are. Doesn't try to dissuade you from eating processed food, just interesting research.

Tyre Pressure gauge: Recommendations please
daveinlim replied to Fender1515's topic in Motorbike Chat
I bought this off Amazon recently. Works well in the car and the bike as the hose is a decent size and the head of the nozzle rotates to make it easier to use. -
Question of Insurance claim -- which company?
daveinlim replied to crayonmuncher's topic in Motorbike Chat
I had a very similar incident nearly a year ago. The other guy admitted fault within a few days. It's still ongoing as both sets of insurers solicitors try to fleece each other. I kept my bike, didn't put it in storage. I kept the replacement bike for a month then returned it. My insurer didn't seem happy about these decisions. Maybe as these are two things they can charge a fortune for. Somewhere in the insurance industry there is a list of unsettled cases. I've had several calls asking for info on my case. They knew details of the case but are essentially ambulance chasers and became very angry when I refused to transfer the case to them after. If I have to go through this again I'll use external solicitors like white Dalton who are known in the industry. Read every piece of paper and email carefully. I've heard stories of replacement bikes being delivered and the rider signs a lease agreement when they think they are just signing for safe delivery of replacement bike. Some insurers are better than others. mine was very good at some things but lacking in others. -
What summer jacket
daveinlim replied to daveinlim's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I've ended up buying a Knox urban pro mk3 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the summer seems to have ended at the same time. I had to go a size up. (I'm normally XL for other brands like rst, Oxford, Dainese, the XL was tight everywhere) 2XL is a good fit, I'm 44 in a suit jacket and 18 in neck. If you have over an 18 inch neck then you'll need a 3XL, the 2XL I bought just about fits. The jacket has a bit of weight to it due to the full level 2 armour but once on it is comfortable and after a minute on the bike you forget it's on. It lets in a ton of air. I use a light windbreaker in the morning commute then just the Knox jacket when it's warm in the evening. Although it can look a bit odd with the collar of my shirt hanging over the top. It is a snug fit by design. My work shirts get a little creased from it but as they are non-iron they are themselves out within an hour. The pockets are ok, the inside pocket for your phone fits my large android phone. Overall I'm quite happy with it as a summer jacket. If Knox did laminated outer jacket I'd probably buy it to use this as the protective layer all year round. -
Painting. Currently half way through painting the inside of my house. What a PITA it is. Moving furniture, taping up, cutting in etc etc. Waiting on today's efforts to dry. Everything is piled into rooms we painted last week. But now I'm stuck in a corner surrounded by crap on a laptop trying to work.

Driving on your phone, driving in the middle lane of the motorway for no reason, doing under the speed limit in the "fast" lane. Having to spend time money and inconvenience myself due to kettle scrote thieves. I'm sure I've a ton of road related ones. Workplace managers that micro manage people to make themselves relevant. People that comment online that they have no interest in an article or topic or that it's boring. Why bother commenting or clicking on it???

Advise on a full motorbike test please
daveinlim replied to Motown_Ben's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Depending where you live, finding a suitable time to go and take the theory test can be a pain. There's apps and/or books you can buy to prepare for the theory test. After years of driving she will probably know most of it but some are bike specific questions. She might as well do the full test. Most schools have fairly small and nimble bikes. The place I did mine had lots of honda cb650 and kawi z650 which are both fairly lightweight and nimble. Just have a look around at local training centres and check their social media pages, you'll be able to see what they use then. -
I've got a OnePlus 8 pro. Bought it outright from OnePlus. I've had it 3+ years and still going strong. When I bought it, it was higher spec than the top Samsung in UK and a lot cheaper. I've been paying £8 a month for my SIM since. (30GB, unlimited calls, no roaming charges). I like my tech and gadgets but I can't see myself upgrading until this phone dies. There isn't enough of a jump in technology to pay out for another phone and I'm well past the age of anyone I know caring what phone I have.
