Pie man Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 ABBA yes you read that right ABBA. None of this industrial new wave rock n soul shite Off to watch ABBA Voyage in a couple of weeks, I need to get down with the happy clappy crowd, put on my casino diamond shoes, trippy print shirt and my best silky flared pants and get ready to dance the night away 4 3 Quote

onesea Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Ok I am not a music buff and I don’t think I have posted on this thread… 18 months ago I started a Spotify subscription to get music on the go, other than the radio. Well I have bumbled along with it one massive playlist a couple of audio books etc… it’s always worked but never been ideal shuffle feature random and repetitive, music suggestions more of the same, lumpy on start up, afew other glitches. I have ended up on Apple Music, for a whilst and the difference? I was out for a ride Saturday. Put some music on and kept listening, no flicking songs new music and music I like. All from half a playlist imported songs (I have to pay 3rd party app to import full playlist from Spotify). Music seems clear. Down side is music doesn't sync across devices, you cannot play Spotify from your a Bluetooth speaker connected phone and change music from your tablet. Quote

I avoided Spotify and Apple music because of negative reviews. I'm using Tidal, it's superb, incredible quality sound, and I rarely flick forward. Quote
Throttled Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I got one of the earliest invites on to Spotify and have used it ever since. In its highest quality streaming rate, the sound quality is excellent. Last year, I listened to so much music, it put me into the top 2% of users worldwide. Once, I lost playlists when there was an update (later recovered) but other than that, it has been utterly reliable. Presently bing listening to Swedish thrash metal band Cult of Luna. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I use Spotify and especially when I'm away. In the less good quality mode I can download stuff over my limited Internet connection and the quality through a head set or buds is reasonable. Given there is constant background noise of engine, fans pumps etc super quality hifi would be pointless anyway. I don't get much repeat and have found so much music I'd never have heard of otherwise. 2 Quote
Blackholesun Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 I went to see linkin park at the O2 a couple of weeks ago so have been listening to their stuff Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 My usual diet is 70's rock through to 80's metal. For some strange reason over the years I've always had raging tinnitus. At night it's horrendous and I've never slept more than a couple of hours. Recently I bought a Snoozeband, basically a soft headband with quite decent quality speakers that a super thin. So at night I've been using Amazon music and finding mellow classical music, piano, cello just nothing with any higher pitched strings. I set it for an hour and go out like a light and don't wake up other than needing a pee about 3.00am...then flat out until the alarm goes off. I tried a night without it and was immediately back to hearing the clock chime every hour. I'm not into classical music really but it gets me to sleep brilliantly. 6 Quote
Gerontious Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 I’m listening to EVERYTHING!! Been doing a lot of selling on eBay now they have done away with sellers fees. And in a moment of madness bought a new (2nd hand) Amplifier - mint condition. Just under half price. The eBay ad mentioned including some cables and when the whole lot arrived it turned out to be one of the most shocking experiences of my life. The amplifier was wondrous as expected, I did a lot of research after I discovered this was one of a few - that the makers of my speakers use to showcase their products at shows and exhibitions. It’s impressive. Even more impressive. The fact I could afford it without the trauma of credit. But. The cables? Not a brand I was familiar with. Unsurprisingly. So I googled them and nearly fainted. They are the same cables as used at Abbey Road Studios. Very swish. The phono interconnects cost £550 and the Speaker cables £150 per meter. And there’s 10 meters in total! Obviously they’re second hand. But even so. It’s a good job I was sitting down. The speaker cables I already had cost about £30 and my phono was a good brand, but only cost me £1 when I found them in a box of cables in a charity shop many years ago. the amp is a thing of beauty - mind. I’m very pleased. When the seller rang to check everything was ok, I asked him why he had sold it. His answer was, baby is nearly a toddler so I’m going wireless. And can lock the streamer away. He told me the brand. But the name meant nothing. i asked him about the speakers and they were a German brand I recognised: Kii, he sent me a photos. And I looked them up. The speakers without stands are £16,000 and having them in white costs £1,400. Stands are £1,500 and the remote controller another £1,500. he lives in a different world to me. they’re not even particularly pretty. Too modern looking for my taste. he’s now baby-proofed them What a week! 8 Quote

rob m Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I learnt to play the guitar to Ramones records, along with the Pistols and the Jam, among others. Showing my age there! After seeing your post, I've just grabbed the Les Paul and can still play Pinhead! Happy days. 2 Quote

I really can’t play guitar Saw them five times - and it really wasn’t anywhere near enough. 1 Quote
