fastbob Posted April 19, 2019 Author Posted April 19, 2019 FFS what have I gotta do ? The guy gave me a £200 cash deposit and we agreed full payment in cash on Tuesday . Now he wants to pay me by PayPal . I'm not keen because I don't fully understand how this works and I've heard the stories about withdrawn transactions. Quote
Tiggie Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I'd definitely be cautious. Wanting to pay by PayPal rings too many alarm bells to me. Quote
Tiggie Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 It happened to my brother with a laptop. He received the funds and as soon as he had marked it as despatched the money got taken back out of his account Quote
Hoggs Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I understand people not wanting to carry loads of cash or having time to go to the bank. But if you're not happy a small message of you'd prefer cash please! Quote

fastbob Posted April 19, 2019 Author Posted April 19, 2019 (edited) I've told him once already. Edited April 22, 2019 by fastbob Quote
learningtofly Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Still looks kosher to me - just let it play out, Bob. Quote
Hoggs Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 From his point of view he probably just wants the bike and doesn't want to have to wait. And everyone hates going to the bank. Quote
dynax Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I'm not sure, but if it is paid as friends and family, the process can't be reversed there is no buyer protection using that method, but just check with PP's terms and conditions Quote
fastbob Posted April 19, 2019 Author Posted April 19, 2019 No , I just ain't doing it . Cash or he can have his deposit back . Quote
dynax Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 No , I just ain't doing it . Cash or he can have his deposit back . In these situations you have to go with what you feel most comfortable with, hope it all goes right Quote
skyrider Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 yes no substitute for hard cash you know where you are with it Quote
Bianco2564 Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I would be super wary, I have said about a PayPal scam before.Tell him its cash only or he can have his deposit back. Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I'm the same I always prefer seeing the money in my hand instead of electronic as there's too many ways it can go tits up Quote
Gerontious Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 I have bought a bike using PayPal. It allowed me to make part of the payment using my credit card so I could spread the cost over a couple of months. Something that's normally impossible for a private sale. No big deal. Quote

Not thought of that good trick to remember...Don't forget there is always direct bank transfer. If you ever do this send £1 first just to make sure they get that (no mixed numbers ) then send the rest.... Quote
