We are taking it in turns each night, if I get up during the night with her I get a lay in and vice versa

Well good luck with the baby, and don’t worry if she is anything like my daughter she’ll keep you awake for hours on end week in week out for MONTHS. :thumb: :thumb:

Don't you mean for years? Our daughters are both in their 30s and married, but dad is still on call out when the oven breaks or the nursery needs wallpapering.

And the nights I spent loitering in dark wet doorways outside night clubs in the early hours just to see them home safe. Of course it's totally unacceptable to be seen so you have to lurk several establishments down the road to prevent embarrassment.

Then there's the 3.30am calls because they've fallen off their high heels and need taking to casualty. Or the mornings you wake up and find all their friends crashed out at your house so you're the only man in a house of barely clad young ladies and it's safer just to go out on the bike until it's all over and it's safe to go home.

The number of times I passed girls wandering around the house not knowing if they were a burglar or someone who was meant to be there.

Then there was the time I went out in the dark and pouring rain to re-attach an exhaust only to crawl out from under the car to see she'd broken down right opposite a National Exhaust place but still decided dad was the best option.

Daughters, brilliant, if you can survive the first thirty years.

Yes I know what you mean my daughter is 40 and dads always on tap even though she lives with her partner, her Triumph needs an oil change so dad has that to do soon. :thumb: :thumb:

You lot have not bought up your daughters in the correct manner.

Mine watched and helped when I worked on the car and bike.

She had a Halfords pro socket set for one Xmas pressy.

Had her own “classic” car at one time and did most of the work on that herself. (Managed to offload my old imperial and what worth spanner’s there).

Does most of the work herself on her 600 Kwak.

Wifes gone to her sisters ... you watch Solaris with a good bottle of scotch ... you sleep well ....

You wander down stairs in the morning and the living room is caked in semi naked 17 and 18 year old girls......

AAGGGGHHHH

What ever you will be wrong ,,,, you make sure your daughter is ok ... in her bed ,,, good

You tiptoe down stairs helmet in hand .... stop it !!

Crash helmet ...

Try not to look at the semi naked drunk sleeping girls ... well don't try too hard as you know your daughter is not among them ....

Ride away ......... hoping heart will return to sensible rate soon .....

Give it a year or 2 and you are so used to semi naked girls being about the place you just kick them, feed them coffee, and phone their mums ...

Mums .... now their the pretty ones .....

I was reading it thinking eh my Pops does none of that stuff, he’ll give me advice on what to do if I ask and in the last 20 odd years he’s been round to help with the archaic electrics twice, that’s it.

Richzx6r For gawds sake if you’re reading this I implore you (yes that biggly I implore you) to show your daughter how to do stuff for herself, get her to help you with mechanical faults, DIY, using different tools, anything usefully practical.

It makes a big difference, not just to how much your running around after your offspring doing jobs later on but how she will approach life in general.

If you’re brought up being shown how to do everything it fosters a feeling you can doing anything.

The odd limitations placed on what you can and can’t do because your female simply don’t exist in your mind.

It’s difficult to explain but spending time with your Dad showing you how to fix a car, drill a hole, solder a pipe, sort an electrical fault is as priceless for a woman as it is a man, maybe even more. He has given me skills that have saved me a fortune and an appreciation of how things work I would never have had otherwise.

Of course his progressive parenting style wasn’t without its flaws, if you’re brought up thinking you’re an equal it’s a bit of a surprise to meet men who think you’re not  :D

So yer wot JRH said.

Meoww ....

So my youngest girl has the family classic car ... Hillman Avenger .... not perfect, but better than a moggy...

On her way back from Uni in Dundee she calls up and says " the brakes make a grinding noise when i use them"

Pads have gone ... "Call the AA' say I..

She turns up 12 hours later ....

No AA callout ...

She found a small backstreet car spares shop in Berwick.. asked the man what she had to do ...she jacked the car up, took the wheels off, one at a time obviously, replaced the pads, as he had told her, outside his shop ... and drove home .... ....

Result !!

My eldest girl would have sold the car, bought drugs, and turned up 6 months later in the back of a police car ...

Kids today ...

It's the phone calls that start with tears at 3am that were never in the instruction manual.

It's ok though, you knew she was going out so you've been sat up waiting for that call, sharpening pointy objects.
