Just the usual scare tactics to get money out of gullible people, why not take it to the place that did the last MOT on it, as they will have some knowledge of the bike and can give you a better informed answer

Main dealers can sometimes be a bit flexible with the truth (not always but it does seem to be the case with ones I've dealt with and is the general consensus)

As an example I took my Intruder in for an mot. It failed on a couple of minor issues but main thing was the swingarm had some corrosion holes in it. They told me it was pretty much a write off and would cost far more than it was worth to fix. This was pretty upsetting as I'd not even had it a year and it was my only means of transport.

I bought a swingarm from eBay for £30 and fitted it myself (purely out of interest I've just looked now and you can buy them for the same price 8 years later!), went a little further afield to an independant garage this time who passed it despite the headlight being aimed too high. They altered it themselves and the owner showed me how to check it in future.

That experience taught me a lesson about garages. If I had listened to the dealer I would of been bikeless

Hi all took my bike for a second opinion and seems all is totally fine...I wasted over £200 but it's a lesson learnt....thanks for all your advice

It is not unknown for dealerships to tell their technicians that they must generate extra work from every job. Some are excellent but others are rogues.

The rogues need to be named and shamed. I am not a huge fan of Facebook but your local bikers group will know the decent workshops and who to avoid.

Find a good workshop and stick with them.

Main dealers,independent can be bad at up selling, bit like mc D with go large, just more expensive.

Some though are really good, a second opinion never hurts, unless your unlucky and go to somewhere worse.

Always pays to get a few recommendations before going anywhere.

Sounds like for your £200 you've avoided a lot of needless and expensive work and found a decent place to take the bike in future. Not such a bad deal, really.
