Fish Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 No bonus, the team I'm currently seconded to collectivily decided to give our meal allowance to charity. On the plus side my secondment comes to an end on the 6th Jan, which has already been hinted with a wink that I'll be moving into the team full time, which is a nice step up in quality of work and a change of T&C's in my favour 1 Quote

I never realised we had a member of the clergy on here. Are you linked to the vicar that used to come to the village where we used the cricket pitch, (Ashby Folville) if I remember rightly. I'm not religious in any way, but he was great to talk to Quote
Tiggie Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Not getting mine until tomorrow. Last years was unexpected and very welcome so I've got high hopes Worst I've had (apart from nothing) was a single can of lager to enjoy while working 7am - 7pm Christmas day at the petrol station 1 Quote

If you are really lucky you can do 6 on/off for days at a time and that sucks the life out of you. Quote

In my book cricket is a blood sport, on account I always got carried off injured. 2 Quote

It helps break my day up a bit as I usually work from 7.30am to around 10.00pm. But I take one of the dog watches off duty. Quote

I believe RN might still do so but they have considerably bigger crews. Quote

I'm not religious in any way, but he was great to talk to If I dug deep enough I could find photos of eating donuts in Father Bill Shergold’s garden in Dover in the late 1970s and my 69 club badge. We were on a visit from Cornwall, Father Bill had given a room to my friend John when he was attending the Prince of Wales Merchant Navy school there because he had run out of money. He had run out of money because he had traded in his CD175 for a CB400 Four. Father Bill was lovely and the only person I’ve ever met with a genuine Giles cartoon of themselves on the wall. He had recently been bought a CB550 by the members of the 69 club as a birthday present. They had traded in his old Triumph without his knowledge. Luckily he loved the new bike especially its electric start. I saw him again a couple of years later when he had moved to the Medway. The story that brought a smile to his face that time was that the Bishop had allowed his move across Kent to be escorted by hundreds of motorcycles. That must have been a shock for his new parishioners. Vicars and motorcycles fit together like hands and gloves. https://www.the59club.co.uk/history-c1d3n https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2009/19-june/gazette/obituary-the-revd-william-shergold Edited December 24, 2021 by DR1 2 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 We have a riding group called The Sons of Jehu, from a verse in the Old Testament where a chariot is seen approaching at high speed.... And the observation was made "That must be Jehu for he driveth furiously" So far it consists of four vicars, two churchwardens and a bishop. 3 1 Quote

Throttled Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Got an email on Christmas Eve about my care job pay rise. I am to get an extra 4p an hour. During the clap for carers, I thought, bugger that, pay us more. Now I know it is 4p an hour, I think bugger that, I preferred it when we were appreciated. 1 6 Quote

They wonder why they cannot get people when a Tesco Delivery driver earns more… A friend went independent as carer, she pays an accountant to do her books. Fully insured She puts herself on courses as she sees fit. She is fighting of new clients, charging more than she ever earned as agency staff and her clients are pleased to see her most of the time…. 2 Quote
