Whole sale gas up 50%, Ukraine is currently defending chernobyl, Wtf is that a target for.

They've lost Chernobyl to the Russians. As well as an airport close to Kiev. They'll cut the country in half taking the major cities then start moving west.

Our son-in-law works in IT and he's spent most of the day shutting down their Ukraine office. The guy there says they are under curfew and he doesn't know if he can back online by tomorrow morning. Just one bloke but sometimes you can only comprehend the magnitude of a disaster by knowing how one person experiences it.

Think they've been hit with extensive ddos attacks

That’s been going on for the last 5 years at least e.g. Notpetya attack initially on Ukraine created by Sandworm which is within the Russian GRU.

Think its ramped up considerably

Russia has sponsored many attacks over the years, shot down a plane killed people in the UK and still all this is a surprise.

Yep, been a softening up process, like a teenager pushing the boundaries & then acting like a petulant toddler when they get called out.

The Russian bogeyman never went away but the West deliberately pretended it did and spent more energy on arguing about genders than on actual ability to defend ourselves and our allies. Our leadership (most Western governments) are morally bankrupt - Johnson, Biden and Trump before him, Merkel  Macron, Trudeau et al.

Now we're flapping but it's a bit bloody late.

25 % of our gas comes into Milford Haven in liquid form from Qatar .

Right now there's several ships on their way to and from Milford Haven with gas from the USA. This business is likely to grow as the US just opened a new gas export terminal in the Gulf of Mexico.

It was never about of us not getting gas, only a small percentage comes from Russia, but if it gets restricted in mainland ussr I mean Europe then market forces will push prices through the roof, it will be a bidding war.

Don't forget China. They've got a direct pipeline into Siberia now and I bet Putin is selling them as much as they can take.

China won't go against Russia because they are in a similar position as Russia but without the fighting.

Why is similar?

Taiwan, Hong-Kong, Philippines sea, Nepal. Although Chinese are a bit more clever and do it silently.

I think the UK needs to reassess its defence spending, stop overspending on absolute tat. I believe they are struggling to get a single type 45 destroyer on  patrol due to engine issues and upgrades years away. The type 23s are aging now and their replacements are years away. I dont think we can effectively defend our own waters let alone anything more!

I know  nobody wants to think about war and spending money on something which may not happen  alas we do.

If you don't pay for defence you are defenceless. We are close to that now. Armour reduced, combat aircraft other than helicopters reduced, infantry reduced, fleet reduced although new ships in pipeline but not quick to get.

Really well set to fight tribesmen in mountains, not so well set to fight modern army on East European plains.
