Yup when they ban ice engine cars from city's and increasingly suburbs it won't be much use, ice is dead as it is. Comparing old relics to any modern car is pointless it's continuing to burn fosil fuels, the batteries in the cheaper model 3 use iron lithium cathode and they are looking to increase the use of iron as there is plenty of it. Tesl also make an over engineered main structure which adds safety at the cost of weight, there are much lighter ev's and they are not something you would want to be in an accident in Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Yeah but Tesla drivers are nobs so you wouldn't want to be seen in one. 1 Quote
billy sugger Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Surely there is not enough infrastructure for EV use yet? Near me the council has fitted charging stations at the end of a side road, in an area clearly marked for EVs only, but guess what are parked there, taking all the space, yes, ICEs Quote

rennie Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I recently watched a video of an EV on fire and what they had to do with the battery to put the fire out. I won't be buying one until I have no other choice 1 Quote

I wonder how EVs will cope in road accidents? 1 Quote

This is where the fire services allow the vehicle to burn out while they focus on protecting the surrounding area. 1 Quote
Stu Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 This was at Silverstone 11 years ago They was all waiting to go out from the paddock and it started smoking The fire brigade came and dowsed it in water The batteries where magnesium Water and magnesium meant that there was batteries flying 30 foot in the air 2 Quote

Does a controlled burn mean the fire brigade stand round the fire with sausages on long sticks? 3 Quote

Yes thanks, I read what you posted. I acknowledged that the statement that you made was contrary readily available information. I can understand how that would confuse you. In other news, total EV is not currently a workable solution to mass transportation needs. Relatively inexpensive hybrid can be more efficient in terms of CO2 production and distance travelled per unit energy than EV so "we" really should pursue that avenue rather than following the EV trend. Everyone knows that sticks would burn and you have to use metal skewers I have cooked sausages on sticks many times and it is much easier than using metal skewers. Firstly sticks don't transmit the heat and secondly the sausages stay on the stick whereas they slide off metal skewers. You don't put the sausages into the flames or they burst. You hold them at a suitable distance where they cook nicely. Green willow sticks work well as they don't burn easily and willow is a public menace so the more of it used for cooking sausages the better. I was disappointed to see the marshall's around Max Verstappen's car not making good use of the fire by grilling a few Roo steaks. This is a waste of a good fire which couldn't have happened to a nicer chap. 2 Quote
S-Westerly Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Surely if you are cooking sausages the whole point is to transfer heat? Take a bloody long time otherwise. Quote

Take a bloody long time otherwise. You need to get the beer to sausage ratio absolutely correct. If the sossie is too close to the fire it will overheat which leads to it bursting or being burnt on the outside but raw in the middle. This is not good and may lead to a nasty case of a rapid dash into the bushes with handfuls of soft green leafs. You ideally want the sossie to cook in the time it takes to leisurely sip a bottle of Jennings Sneck Lifter. One beer per sossie tends to be a good rule of thumb for ensuring the sossie is cooked to perfection. If you follow this rule it also means that by the end of the evening you don't have a problem finding fluid with which to ensure the fire is safely extinguished. Quote
