  1. Did it say jigsaw Must of been having an off day my experience is normally the other way round. (image stolen form internet)
  2. As I change my own pads I would rather change every 10,000 miles than change my discs...
  3. Good luck with the abseiling today mate, I'd have joined you for it if I'd known It was kind of cool with some good views...
  4. This could be me if today does not go to plan... Doing this in support of a friend who lost her brother in a bike accident. If anyone is feeling generous. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gerrit-tony-spinnakertower?fbclid=IwAR2nYWW4CO86y7serWkpDf3dm1m-NcFOa1mr_X89DFgfTpLFUYGnWii0y-E

    Oil drain bolt

You just carry a roll of bailer twine with you, fixes anything. They don't bother fixing it, just distribute it constantly over the road and top up with fresh...
  6. Mine would probably take less than that. Then I have always use my old lid for commuting, or a cheap lid. Plus if they take my lid and don't damage the bike I will be happy. IMHO they are more likely to take the bike. Second hand helmets have little value...
  7. Hi Welcome I would say large top box leave boots and lid on bike.... You can use it to carry your shoes and laptop when riding. I am not keen on carrying my helmet they are always getting knocked. So much so if I got to supermarket on bike I take a shopping trolley to put my lid in! A rucksack would take a fair beating as well if surrounded by commuters...
  8. I have commuted distance for a short period in my life, its not good for you... 6 months 100 miles normally 4 days a week. To far too long 2h45m each way. I did do it by bike some days but primarily by train. The ride in was brill before rush hour, the ride home filtering for an hour before traffic "eased". I found it unsustainable. In my view anything over an hour is not good for you. Presently my commute is less than 2 miles and I intend to keep it as short as possible. Cost up the commuting my partner was doing 30k miles a year in her car tyres maintenance fuel all mounts up. Just renewing her insurance she has done less than 10k (due to lockdown) for the first time in years... However depending on how you live family commitments there are options. Plenty of people live in caravans for the days they are at work and return home for "weekends". Its not a bad way to live if your shifts and work are all grouped together. Alternatively your work moves you between different sites. The advantages are its your home not a soul less hotel room. Its your own bed TV and you can keep as much beer in the fridge as you wish. I would buy big enough that you don't need an awning as for all the straps you put on in winter they tend to take off and do damage. I did this for a few years.

    Hello!

Hello and welcome... I like your plan but can I suggest, do your CBT and then: Get a 125cc - Japanese if one crops up at right price. Ride it until spring and DAS achieved. In Spring if you buy wise you will get your money back on the 125 and have some experience. As soon as you have your theory get on with Mod1, with Mod 1 in hand get on with Mod 2. Enjoy a larger cc bike. Time roles on and spring will be here in a minute not everyone passes Mod 1 first time, plus of a winter schools are often less in demand and more accommodating.... I went from your plan at this time of year to having DAS and big bike by Christmas... I promised my misses I would not get big bike till spring Then she said she would never go Pillion and she now has several 1000 miles as Pillion

    Newbies

I have a TDM 900 and cannot say I am so restrictive on revs, the rest I fully agree with.
  12. I am music all the time, I find that I actually ride quicker with relaxed music I get into flow and don't notice speedo Shania Twain is one i am listening to...
  13. To the extent its not uncommon for people to have to come back and do a second day. Ask the right school they might give you 2 days CBT. Also watch on FB some schools offer taster sessions. Local FB motorbike groups are often a good start, motorbikes and FB sadly run together and allot of good and bad advice (sorry contradictory good advice ) on it....
  14. A Smart watch, pick your brand I have a Huawei Watch 2. I no longer carry a Wallet NFC payment for just about everything, Timers & notifications without getting phone out of pocket, Using stow card app I have all my loyalty cards in one spot, View ranger gives me on wrist walking navigation plus google maps (with navigation), Music Control, Plus a couple of apps I use at work, Heart rate monitoring step monitoring etc, Traditional watches I have not worn for a decade, for reasons given. My smart watch I am not without unless its charging which is a daily task (the worst part), although it only takes an hour.
  15. Pure amateur pricing, try Salties in Yarmouth.. That's the price per person....
  16. £12,000 I would not mind going electric, they just need to make one that's cheaper than running my present 2 bikes 6 years...
  17. Not in the manual but I would not take carbs apart, just to clean unless I had reason. Spray with carb cleaner blow air at gently, if you can cobble up a fuel source run fuel through bowls with drain screw open. Even soak in petrol. If bike runs fine great, if not then I would look to to take apart. Not something I have had to do yet to a bike. Even on outboards removing the first bowl and cleaning that has been enough. Redex or your favourite 4 stroke fuel system cleaner would not go amiss either. Don't forget after taking apart for cleaning they should be set and balanced as well.
  18. I got a course for 8mph over, towing a caravan in Dorset. The police started the days lectures staying they understood how easy it is to be delayed by caravans and tourists then to speed afterwards. They where not happy when I asked as I was a tourist and towing a caravan when I got caught, could I be exempted from the course?
  19. Let me just correct that for you I am sure it was tested to maximum legal road speed...
  20. Just found another my misses leggings this time known to be 3-4 years old.... Starting to wonder if its something we are doing! So looking for good source for a few pairs of knee and hip armour...

    Touring Tyres

Bloody hell that would be 3-4 sets of tyres a year for me. I get about 10-12k from a tyre I am for from known for the slowest riding. Although now I need my driving licence for work I have rained in allot.

    Touring Tyres

I have gone with the Avon Storm 3D XM I found the pair for £150 compared with about £110 for the front.

    Touring Tyres

Interesting at 240kg often 2 up I fall in the heavier bike category and 20% cheaper than PR4/5's with good reviews.

    Touring Tyres

That's the advice I have always followed, until my last rear. Presently the rear is a Metzeler Roadtec Z8 - no complaints yet. I bought it because it was literally 1/2 the price of PR4 at the time, I have no complaints although i cannot say how many miles is done. Presently I can get a Metzger Z6 for 2/3 the price of a PR4/5 and I cannot say I am not tempted. Although the difference is not that great in price. Then buying a new tyre for one or other bike ever 6 months or so it's a noticeable cost. Yes I have no issues with having miss matched front and rear tyres. If I bought tyres in pairs it would push costs up massively, when they wear out I replace. During my time in bikes I have used: Road Smarts I found they lacked in the wet, Battle Axe did not have the life I expected, PR4's I seem to get punctures at around 6k miles. Hence I bought insurance with my last front.
