Touring Tyres

Ok I have always been sold on Mitchlen Pilot Road Series of tyres. I have tried others but always fall back to PR's. Has the world moved on or do I just stick with the PR range? Looking for cost effective all year, high mileage tyres, that are good in the wet and dry. Bike is a heavy Triumph Trophy 1200 240kg, often 2 up.
2. Last time I played with with prime music, it was just a taster for you to try music unlimited... There was some bits that where missing that where frustrating...
3. Why? Because it's bloody annoying when your music stops because you have lost data signal. Not everyone lives in places where mobile phone signal can be taken for granted. Frequently here I am on 3g or nothing, don't say change networks, they all have bad spots you just choose your network to where you live.
4. It dawned on me on my last run, that my music collection although extensive is being dated... Looking at music streaming options where do you start... It must work offline, We have Amazon Prime (not prime music) I get unlimited free downloads on Deezer with 3, then our data plans are huge anyway, We use Android, Cardo (our headsets) and Spotify are linked, Any recommendations.

Adhoc meets

I believe I am not the only one who goes for Adhoc runs and over nighters in the UK. Sometimes camping, sometimes discount accommodation (when weather not so great, although struggling finding this at the moment COVID?). I am predominantly South of England based and change my mind with the weather. Its all in the name of enjoyment, I am happy to ride and stay on my own how ever... Its always nice to have a coffee/ beer with other like minded sorts. Chatting with my mate on my last run (I am not always solo) we discussed others joining in, it would add to the runs away. Local knowledge, different conversations. My thought is we don't need to ride together just be in same place at same time meet chat, and think I wont be meeting him again, what an idiot but it could be laugh. Now being adhoc, probably short notice the chances are slim (we would never beet the COVID 6 people limit), however if your of a like mind and poll gets a decent result please post them up (and I will). Normally I don't bother posting on the assumption no one will be about, willing to give it a try even if it is in the spring when I next get chance!
6. IF you do decide New Forest I am based down here and might be able to give some advice (I won't guarantee the quality). This was an Adhoc run, me and friend had time and went. We actually started planning Wales, then the Forecast developed and Kent was 100% dry wales 50% chance of rain. Might of only been showers but could still leave greasy roads so in my usual manner I changed plans. I have planned countless routes and nights out planned each for there own reasons favourites being weather is good and I have not been there enough, oh and the roads are good. The deciding factor is often the weather all normally decided at the last minute which means finding riding or even camping buddies can be impossible.
7. Well I did it. Great ride weather was warm with dry roads what more can you ask we went: Stayed here would recommend: https://www.hatchersfarm.co.uk/facilities-and-pricing Putting tents up local pub was recommended by owner, we suggest evening ride. So where advised that Peters Fish Factory was an essential: https://m.facebook.com/petersfishfactoryramsgate/?locale2=en_GB Fish and Chips £4.75 good as well. My mate on his GSA blah blah supper dooper model was not impressed when owner said ohh that's a new TDM I have had two 850's. The ride round the headland was cool particular riding past white cliffs turning pink at sun set. The ride home we did: Having breakfast in Herne Bay which could be sizeable: You need a GSA to carry that all day... Next stop was adorable, quaint and a worthy week day stop, sadly not open of a weekend. https://littlebeancafe.co.uk/ Apart from a blown headlight, on my bike a bloody good 2 days. I will return another day with more time to explore...
8. Just becarefull how much you flirt with the girl at the till, when you forget your misses is listening. On the other foot wait till your other half is at the till then wisper sweet nothings in her ear. Maybe how you have some intermit sexual fantasy, that you would like to act out. Perhaps that the person at the till remind you of a porn star, who is renown for extreme... You get the idea.
9. Well it seems I have taken to motorbike camping... and I have a night pass for a night out this week. Having ridden to the SW Devon Cornwall a couple of times this year, not having time to go back to Norfolk this time... My plan had been Wales but gut feeling Wales might go damp and cold. Where as Kent is looking drier and warmer and i have only ever been there to go some where or meet someone. So heading out the forest I am thinking of east camp and return. Not really intrested in anything West of Brighton as that is with within a days ride of home. I have also riden and driven the coast rode from Dover before. Its Kent itself I had on my hit list: Margate - just because. Isle of Sheppy - just because. Folkstone down to Dungeness as my riding buddy had not been to Dungeness. Maybe Deal So looking for camping and recommendations for good roads.
10. Maybe something on here.. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1MrV3qAatZ8j5whwtkmFrASENce8&usp=sharing
11. Or Just reading the book, early in my motorbike career I read Motorcycle Road Craft. It does highlight many useful practices, principles and points "the system" I think its referred to. I cannot comment on test.
12. We got in to them over a couple of years 2 cars 2 bikes. Then the increasses started and we went back to comparethemarket.
13. Are you sure it was not Chloroform? Seems more likely to me.
14. I am going to disagree buy initially buy what you can find that you think is best and that fits. I choose routinely between jackets and trousers depending on what the weather is and where I am riding. Some people don't ride in the rain some don't ride when its to cold, some don't care. Yes I do have Gortex and agree anything else is second best, when it comes to waterproof. Do you really need it as a first jacket? you can get adequate for a dam-site less and work out what suits you.
15. yes wet dog stinks The solution to smelly dogs is sea water swimming, the challenge is getting them from sea water to dry without mud.
16. Ah but for the full pleasure of that you need the sails, wetsuit, outboard and wet dog that's been playing in the mud. Last time I took my car to the car wash they cursed (in Polish but it was obvious). Fabreeze would be my answer to boots. For the car, you are simply not welcome at the same carwash twice.
17. Thanks Stu and Trace arrived while I was away...
18. Norfolk way was so different, got my misses to drive as I wanted a pint, her verbal of driving was funny.... They did not pull out on me! They let me in... They pulled in. Buckinghamshire way there was the odd idiot, although they soon realised we could be a bigger dick and backed off.... Was wondering where I got those skills then I came home and I realised I am an amateur... PS London holds no fear your in the wrong lane a bit of argy, bargy and your in the right lane maybe a waved fist or beep of horn. Try doing the same on Southampton rush hour, it's not a shake off the fist is a cut to the throat. Its not a beep of the horn its a break test and a challenge to fisticuffs.... Then you have the pleasure of "local" traditions. I can expand if you want but it ended with me saying to my mum "crash into the car beside us not the bin lorry coming head on. According to the signs she was in the right lane....
19. Now this may raise s discussion. Unusually for me I have not ventured far in the UK the last few years. In the last 2 weeks I have been from my home in the New Forest. Up passed London, venturing into Norfolk, and exploring that area up to Buckingham and down. 500 odd miles without caravan and near enough the same without. Once passed London driving became a pleasure again, the urgency in most had gone the cut throat arrogance gone. Having just ventured back down here I remember how to get through a priority system when you have priority you just have to drive at the on coming car and then expect to have abuse given to you for it. If you want to turn right against a no right turn sign you just so the whole of the high streets traffic and cause grid lock and give others abuse for not letting you. If you let one car out you at a junction you can expect to let EVERY CAR out. This is all in a 20 minutes drive after leaving caravan in storage. So I am nominating Hampshire and will defend my point.
20. Time travel has a major flaw, in that you can only return to a point in time that the machine actually existed, you could travel into the future and back to the point of when it first was activated, but you cannot go back in time beyond the point that it actually existed That's fine I voted time travel to go back and drive all the others... Then I could decide which one i wanted for ever...
21. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion The corrosion will still be happening, probably faster not in the stainless steel bolts, probably in a alloy casting somewhere damp in a corner... Personally I would rather change the bolts every 10 years or so... Present one that needs replacing, was last tightened by a main dealer...
22. You have my sympathy last engine block bolt I had shear was on a boat on a mooring.. accessable by dinghy. My engineer had basically said it's a manifold and if it's going to shear it will go on me as easily as you.... Well 1 sheared, . Next phone call to engineer, will you know as much about removing them as I do, suggest you start with easy-out. This is hand tools only no 240v power on floating boat Dinghy run ashore for easy-out... Easy-out nearly snapped managed to get it out, Next advice was drilling, it out by hand drill.. As much removed as I dared, tap to clear threads. Dinghy run ashore for taps. Tap threaded into clean threads 3/4 turn in 1/2 turn back, doing well. Tap snaps clean off. Oh duck. Phone call to my engineer, bring me the head is got to come of I'll get it serviced since it's got to come of and refit it for you.. it won't be cheap Phone call to old marine engineer friend, so you have a tap broken in the engine head. Yes. That's not very good is it. No. You know you will probably have to rebuild the engine. Yes. That's not very good is it. No. How have you got yourself here, I give him full story. That's not good. No. He then suggests, taps by nature are very hard metal, you did not drop the tap did you? Use hammer? (He knows me well) No and I actually had not, although actually shearing bolt... I won't mention. Well he says there is one thing that might.... Do you have large hammer, hand in tool box strangely yes 1 pound lump , a sharp punch, again hand in, yes. Well the thing with hard metals is they are very brittle, if you hit the tap hard enough with one swing there is small chance, it will shatter. If you ever try this at home wear safety glasses... They really explode. It worked, it took me 3 days and countless ciggerette's (why do I have a pension) to get that one bolt out. My marine engineer's comment when job was done was original solution and for all you smoked it was cheaper than me being involved IMHO You made the right choice...
23. First part is request: Anyone know where you can get new screws for brake/ clutch reservoir covers? Preferably not stainless. Next thought is fitting stainless bolts why? they look good but.... Years of experience in boats has taught me to be careful of stainless fittings stainless on just about any other metal than stainless = other metal is going to act as anode... I had this discussion when getting brakes serviced oh we have some stainless bolts we can replace.. My response was can I have some original non stainless bolts I can replace them in 20 years not the caliper when the alloy rots because of the stainless... If your going to use stainless seriously consider some duralac, jointing compound. Although becarefull having liberally pasted it over fittings (and me subsequently me, it's messy stuff) for years I have been told is carcanagenic. Another reason I won't see retirement...
24. It might be well worth shopping around, asking in local Facebook groups. Then more distant ones... Sadly the costs of getting a licence is going to change motorcycling. Many kids ride on a CBT till they are 17 then it's cheaper to learn to drive and run a car... So most people doing there full licence are doing it for pleasure not out of necessity. Most schools have decided being overcharged for training is part of the experience... Then the motorcycle manufactures have to sell to people buying out of choice not for necessity. So the more expensive is obviously better. Look at difference between the market for 125's cheap & built for purpose, then look at the rest of the bike market....
