Guest Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Merry Christmas all.....having a great day? Quote
JRH Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Yes thanks. Had a couple of glasses of port and a few of red wine now just about to start on the Christmas pud. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Merry when applied to Christmas has a different meaning, as in the carol "God rest ye merry, gentlemen.. " the comma is significant!Merry in ancient usage means ' courageous'...as in those who have laid on Christmas dinner for 75 people in our community centre for those who would otherwise be alone this festive season. It takes guts to do something like that.So in its true sense, may this be a merry Christmas to everyone on here. Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Yes thanks. Had a couple of glasses of port and a few of red wine now just about to start on the Christmas pud. I have no room for pud!.........I will partake in a couple of Estrella,s later Quote

Muttly Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Right then. Kids and Mrs Muttly asleep. Guess I had better get on with the clearing up. I only cooked for 6 adults and two kids today. I cooked enough for 15 adults. Oops. I did nip out for half an hour on the bike though. Because I am off work she has not been out since wednesday so took her out for half hour. Tried turning in two car park spaces at Sainsburgs but could not. Is that really the distance for mod 1?Any who, procrastinate procrastinate procrastinate. Hope all have had as good a day as seems feasible to them. Quote

MarkW Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 (edited) Merry when applied to Christmas has a different meaning, as in the carol "God rest ye merry, gentlemen.. " the comma is significant! Whilst we're doing festive pedantry, every time I hear Chris de Burgh's sodding Spaceman Came Travelling it makes me cross. Even if "'Twas lightyears of time since his mission did start" wasn't scientifically illiterate (a lightyear being a unit of distance, not time) it would still be a tautology. Lazy writing from the monobrowed purveyor of ultimate filth. Edited December 26, 2018 by MarkW Quote
