I remember my parents dropping me off in Norwich to start a new job and I went straight to the dealership (without telling them I was doing so) to buy it. I got a quick lesson in the car park and then was handed the keys and waved goodbye. As I pulled away I did such a massive wheelie that the bike flipped over, landing on me for the most part but causing some mirror and foot peg damage.

Going back inside - with a badly bleeding knee - to ask for some assistance was...embarrassing!

My first bike was a Gilera 50cc pedal and pop that i bought from a neighbour for a tenner when i was about 14, used to take it on the school field for a lark about, but my first road legal bike was a 1978 Yamaha YB100 with a 125cc upgrade

I had a cg125 from 2002 but an older shape one.....that was 6 months old when it was impaled in the front of a car but it saved me from being impaled in the car by catapulting me clear.....it taught me I'm not Marc Marquez

I've just been riding for 4 years but mates all had bikes when 16 ( i couldn't afford one )one had a mbx50 and other mate had a new AR50 ..he sold that for a ysr50 ,then a 250lc and finally a cbx1000 ! All before his 19th birthday ...mate who had mbx sold that and got a tzr250 reverse cyl( on a l plate lol) I had to wait till I was 40 to get on the road

My first bike Honda CB250N Superdream. Rode it from London to Southport never having ridden a bike before. Fell off a lot but once I stopped falling off had a load of fun.

Yamaha DT125 although I did have an old Honda SS50 that I learnt to ride on in a field .... Lost count of the amount of times I fell of when learning and it still kept going

I restored a Sachs xtc 125 2 stroke using the dt125r engine but I had it derestricted... Big fun like ur dt125

How I got into bikes....

A mate gave me a Mk 1 Escort in bits (this was back in the day when they were worthless) which I welded together to make myself a car. Great little motor that always came out of corners sideways because I'd seam welded it so it was a bit too rigid. When the kids started school right over the road I wasn't using it so I sold to our window cleaner for £300. Big mistake. A couple of years later it was worth a fortune.

Then I got offered a job which meant commuting in and out of Liverpool. We were skint so it had to be cheap so I bought a knackered old Honda C90. It would never run in the wet and in the dark you could see flames coming out of the cylinder head where the exhaust was mounted. I fixed that with two-pack metal cement.

Eventually the local wildlife did me a favour and nicked it. So I upgraded to an ex-training school CG125 that was equally clapped out but went in the wet.

Fast forward a few years and I met up with my old Mk1 Escort - it died a glorious death being rallied - the guy who bought it fitted all new running gear but with the bodyshell already seam welded it was ideal for him.

My last mk2 escort was few tears / years ago..1999. It was a 4 door gl but I fitted 1.6 sport stuff and sprayed it yellow lol.mate had a proper mexico mk2 at same time ( now worth a retirement !) But nothing like riding my bike and the thrilling feeling I get ....like billy Elliot would say its like electric

You sure he was riding the TZR legally?

250cc learner laws changed in 1983 and the TZR reverse cyl didn't come out until 1989.

The cg I got (es4) had a creak in rear wheel low speeds and a wobble at 55+...I discovered the rear wheel was not a cg item and brake plate looked like a H100 one..when I removed wheel I found old owner had taped a old 24mm and big washer to use a spacer. .the creak was the nut chewing the ribs in brakeplate ...the bolt main had been left loose to allow float ...I contacted seller and he said " I think I know why u are ringing me !" He told me no part refund after buying replacement 2nd parts and new chain set as rear sprocket wrong also .....so warning please buyer beware of any bike and check over carefully

Didn't know that was the case.Lucky lot.

I was 17 in early 1981 and had 6 months of a GT250 on L plates before passing the ludicrously easy driving test.

Honda CBR929 Fireblade back in 2002, numerous motocross etc before that.

I didn't bother with a road bike until i was 24, didn't see the point in having a 50cc until 17 and I could only afford a car at 17 so went that route.

A spin on a friend's bike (in a supermarket carpark) made me want a road bike, I could afford both bike + car at 24 as I was several years into being a qualified trade.
