S-Westerly Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Hmm, there's unlikely to be enough evidence to prove the works are responsible. Biggest piece of flying debris I ever came close to was a stone the size of a cobble which came off a tractor's tyre and we were nowhere near any roadworks. Quote

It's a busy road and the debris could have come from anywhere. Quite a few of the houses along there have gravel drives so a stone lodged in a tyre coould just have easily come off anyone's drive as the roadworks. The only annoying bit is having booked the replacement screen with Autoglass they couldn't take paymenty for the £75 excess because their system was down. I've tried again this morning and it's still down - yet they send me a text saying you haven't paid so go to this link - which is the same one as doesn't work. 1 Quote
JRH Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 I had to have a new screen recently with Autoglass and they couldn’t fit a new screen at my home, so I paid the £75 excess when I picked the car up. Apparently a new screen for the car was over £1200 Quote
onesea Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 So you work shifts, your company policy states Christmas shifts will be set by 2nd Monday in October. Requests for Christmas leave must be in by June. Which they requested and recieved. However they are not going to tell us our shifts till the end if November So now family and friends will make plans for Christmas and it will be luck if the draw if I am there.. 3 Quote

PaulCa Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 (edited) I had my Christmas holidays approved in June. I think across my whole 15 year career I have only had to "work" over the 2 weeks of christmas once and that was to attend a 2 day training course on over Christmas week, 28/29th. Although I did once get the experience of Cairo on the 22nd of December, eating outdoors in a short sleeved shirt at 23*C. But back the next day for xmas holidays, 2 weeks. In fact, the current contract, they lock off the code release process first week in December and don't unfreeze it until the 2nd week in January. Do nobody plans releases over xmas. Unless you are unlucky enough to end up in a production support role, on call. Edited November 11, 2021 by PaulCa Quote
husoi Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I won't mention that construction industry closes before xmas and opens again after NY... Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 If I'm away Christmas is a working day if I'm not it isn't. This year I'm home and I was last year but that was a mess. Next year I'll probably be away but it depends on how screwed up the relieving schedule is. Quote
billy sugger Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I might be a philistine, but I would be happy with Xmas day and boxing day, plus new years eve and new years day off, and have more time off in summer/autumn. I no longer "celebrate" Xmas, to me it's just another excuse to get you to spend money. I even struggled last weekend to get a small joint of pork for Sunday dinner, most places had filled the shelves with large family sized cuts ready for Xmas, it's not even mid November yet! Before I get called scrooge,I know this time is special if you have young children, and I did push the boat out when the two boys were young, but it's now too commercialised. I'm not even listening to the radio, another playing of simply having a wonderful Christmas time and it would be out the window. This time of year its usually wet, cold and miserable and if it snows everything now comes to a standstill, so I would rather work and save the days off for better use in summer 1 Quote

Mickly Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Now, I understand that I could have avoided this if I had switched my phone off but….. The couple of quiet minutes at 11:00 today to reflect on those who served and fell was interrupted by the pinging of txts from Dominoes & Hermes, FFS can’t these tw*ts put a moratorium on messages for just 2 minutes Quote

I absolutely loathe the whole palaver that has taken over. 1 Quote

Don't do the palaver and for me it's purely family. Having missed so many (9 on the trot) when my kids were small I appreciate it and enjoy my grandchildren. The commercialisation of it leaves me cold and our family traditions don't include turkey. Probably do drink too much though. 2 Quote

Guest Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Not sure why folks are so bothered with the modern belief that Christmas means buying plastic Chinese made crap to stick in landfill two weeks later. Seems just as valid a belief as the corned beef hash that makes up the traditional mix of supposed religious beliefs of various origin. I.e. its all a load of nonsense whether that be biblical nonsense or commercial nonsense. Quote

onesea Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Don’t start me on Christmas, I know I work through Christmas how ever from the 20th December to the 6th of Jan my shifts are unknown. I will not be told them completely until the 6th of December, some how I can see the response when I ask for child access at such short notice. Policy states we should be told by the 2nd Monday in October. Then don’t mention the Christmas Party that’s another stuffed up story. First time in 4 years I am not working and a work side oversight, I got 1 day notice to book. Needless to say I won’t be going. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 If everyone celebrated Christmas according to the Gospel of St Mark - the first one written - the original version - we wouldn't have all this fuss. 'Cos it ain't in there. 2 Quote
