Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My pet hates are any statement beginning with "so".And the constant, and usually patronising, use of "absolutely". Quote
MarkW Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My pet hates are any statement beginning with "so".And the constant, and usually patronising, use of "absolutely". Guilty as charged on both counts... Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I hate “Indeed” there’s a pomposity that requires the electric chair Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My favourite is “oh really” Which I use myself often in the head nodding form of “oh right” when I’m not listening at all Quote
Gerontious Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Awesome. That new bike is awesome. New pattern Arai helmet: awesome. These heated grips are awesome. I changed my exhaust and now the bike sounds awesome. It's all too awesome for words in a way that can only be described can as awesome. This thread is awesome. And it's just totally awesome being a part of it.Awesome. Absolutely Awesome.Indeed. Quote
Bianco2564 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 The word "basically" and phrase "unfinished business" really grate on me.. Quote
Muttly Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I over use the word that begins with C and rhymes with unt. Quote
Six30 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 If you put f*cking in front of amazing it sounds ok . Quote
MarkW Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Having taken three flights this week I have to say that almost anything that comes of the mouths of cabin crew gets my vote. Amongst their endless stream of barely intelligible drivel I reserve a special hatred for their constant use of "At this time"."At this time we ask you to return to your seats...""If we can be of any assistance at this time...""We ask you to watch the safety demonstration at this time..." Mr Fro Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 "Literally"Used copiously by people who don't know what it means. Quote
Andy ham Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I agree ! I work with an ar*ehole who has a severe addiction for this word. Why can't he just piss off Quote
Magpie84 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 "Literally"Used copiously by people who don't know what it means. Our son is a big fan of literally. He uses it wrongly in literally every sentence Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 It begs the question whats said when something happens that is ‘literally awesome’ what words are you supposed to use, what if something is oh my god amazing/awesome and they’ve literally already been used up on piffle? What are you going to say then? “Thankyou very much that’s completely mediocre” Quote
learningtofly Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I hate “Indeed” there’s a pomposity that requires the electric chair Indeed. Quote
Mr Fro Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 " Smashed it " *Fro shakes bones fist and mutters to himself* Quote
S-Westerly Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 "Obviously" when said in a certain patronising tone as part of an answer to a question. If it was bloody obvious I wouldn't have asked the question would I? Also the phrase "at this moment in time" so beloved of politicians. In fact if I think about it every word uttered by any politician is usually over used, distorted and seems to be the exact opposite of the dictionary definition. Quote
gogs01 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 "I"As in "you took James and I to the bike shop"No you didn't, you took James and ME !Nobody takes I. If you take anybody, you take ME.Gettit ?? Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 One that goes very well with the patronising overtones of “obviously” is “If you think about it” as if you’re to stupid or lazy to have thought about it.Or how about the ancient management speak that is still used by useless managers- “think outside the box” grrrrrr.
