Fiddlesticks Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Comfort pillion seat fitted to the Thunderbird. Much wider than the old one, but Mrs Fiddlesticks wishes it be known that it was bought for its depth, not its width. Went for a test ride to the bike night at Lydiate. Good turnout, including a few who thought doing two-up wheelies at speed down the road was a good idea. Takes all sorts to make a perfect world, my gran used to say. Well, the seat received a glowing report. And 9 days for a 24 hour delivery is not too bad, by Evri's standards. Alls well etc... 6 Quote
fastbob Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Replaced the front pads on the Harley . I was very impressed by the simple , robust design of the caliper and the retaining pin which is essentially an M10 bolt . No recessed socket headed pins made of toffey , no tiny R Clips to lose , no razor sharp chrome spring clips to fly out , no rubber boots to rip , no anti squeal plates to fall out etc. etc. The pads had hooks on the back that engage with corresponding hooks inside the pistons enabling them to be replaced in a few seconds . A good design . 1 Quote
Guest Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Took it for an overdue mot. Should have been done about a month ago. No problems but a dismal mileage of 500 miles in the past year. Bloody proclaimers walked that far and then did it again. What a year. Quote
JRH Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Had a bimble over to @Hoggs in Norfolk and did some fettling on the Z750. Quote

Ah yes, the uphill in Norfolk. I was working on a farm recently and the owner asked if I had parked up the hill. Couldn't understand where the hell he meant, but it transpired it was where I parked. 300m up the road all of 1m higher in elevation. Quote

Are they still doing brews and burgers? I recall a strong police bike presence some years ago due to the fact bikers and their wheelie antics on the road at the front. 1 Quote

We did used to know the guy who put on the food with the scouts. It was a good fundraiser for them. Quote

I must do better but I don't get out much these days. 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 I've never been to the Scoth Piper though we used to live not far away. Wednesday evening is my sailing night so not much chance of getting there during the summer. Do they meet over the winter? Old Stores bike night stops in the winter I think. Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 (edited) I broke it Our drive is a bit of a slope and the Honda fell off the side stand. The clutch lever and adjuster and hand guard are busted. The lever and adjuster come to a whopping £9.26 to replace. Edited August 14, 2023 by Mississippi Bullfrog 1 Quote

Fiddlesticks Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 A few little jobs on the explorer. Oil n' filter Diff oil New Horn Rear tyre New mirrors The new horn wasn't necessary, the problem seems to be a bad earth or something in the wiring making it sound weak to non-existent. I had assumed it was my over-enthusiasm with the snow foam. It'll have to stay like that for a bit. First time doing the oil and filter on this bike. Bit surprised that the sump plug had a fairly thick (non-crush) washer. I cleaned it up and put it back on. Rear tyre (Michelin Road 5 Trail) had done 8,645 miles. Probably would have left it another month or so, but we're about to scuttle off to France so... The new one is a Road 6 (not trail, couldn't find one). And the second one to require no balancing weights at all. Just got to tidy up, fuel up and go for a ride now. 8 Quote
veracocha Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Filled the bike up and saddled the tent. Off to Scotland in the morning for an 8-day trip on my lonesome. Second NC500 trip in six months (anti-clockwise this time). 4 Quote
billy sugger Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Fixed my ABS problem. A fortnight ago a woman looked straight at me, hen pulled out onto the roundabout in front of me so brakes used in anger for only the 2nd time since I've owned the bike. Since then I have had the ABS light continously flashing, and the code was one long ulse followed by 3 short pulses, meaning rears ensor failure couldn't get the bloody thing out so I bought a second hand caliper bracket, complete with working sensor via fleabay for £20. Fitted it at the lock up this morning and now lights back to normal. A clip had snapped on the brake line that held the wire to the sensor, so it was hanging loose and when I braked hard it got trapped between the swing arm and the exhaust which shredded it 5 Quote
Pie man Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Went for a shake down ride to Blaenau Ffestiniog, round trip of 220 miles over four and a half hours, only stopping once to let some air out of the airhawk seat cushion. Just need to get my act together and get a trip booked now. Quote
Richard Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Went out for the first time on the bike in six months ( post stroke) very pleased with myself! 9 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Noticed the brake light wasn't working properly. Took the switch to pieces, cleaned the contacts - all sorted. 2 Quote
fastbob Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Just went out and rode mine around Warwickshire ( HS2 permitting ) A lovely warm, dry evening with very little traffic . Just me and the big , beautiful Harley . Never looked down at the dash once , just riding by feel and sound and changing gear occasionally more for something to do than anything else . I'm really dialled into this bike now and loving every mile of it . ( Thanks again Ian ) Another bonus is that wherever I stop , there's always something beautiful to look at . My bike . 8 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Checked the tyres as I always do and found a nail in the front. It's done less than 500 miles from new. Not a happy bunny. 2 Quote
