Much wider than the old one, but Mrs Fiddlesticks wishes it be known that it was bought for its depth, not its width. Went for a test ride to the bike night at Lydiate. Good turnout, including a few who thought doing two-up wheelies at speed down the road was a good idea. Takes all sorts to make a perfect world, my gran used to say. I was very impressed by the simple , robust design of the caliper and the retaining pin which is essentially an M10 bolt . No recessed socket headed pins made of toffey , no tiny R Clips to lose , no razor sharp chrome spring clips to fly out , no rubber boots to rip , no anti squeal plates to fall out etc. etc. The pads had hooks on the back that engage with corresponding hooks inside the pistons enabling them to be replaced in a few seconds . Couldn't understand where the hell he meant, but it transpired it was where I parked. 300m up the road all of 1m higher in elevation. Are they still doing brews and burgers? The clutch lever and adjuster and hand guard are busted. The lever and adjuster come to a whopping £9.26 to replace. Oil n' filter Diff oil New Horn Rear tyre New mirrors The new horn wasn't necessary, the problem seems to be a bad earth or something in the wiring making it sound weak to non-existent. I had assumed it was my over-enthusiasm with the snow foam. It'll have to stay like that for a bit. First time doing the oil and filter on this bike. Bit surprised that the sump plug had a fairly thick (non-crush) washer. I cleaned it up and put it back on. Rear tyre (Michelin Road 5 Trail) had done 8,645 miles. Probably would have left it another month or so, but we're about to scuttle off to France so... The new one is a Road 6 (not trail, couldn't find one). A fortnight ago a woman looked straight at me, hen pulled out onto the roundabout in front of me so brakes used in anger for only the 2nd time since I've owned the bike. Since then I have had the ABS light continously flashing, and the code was one long ulse followed by 3 short pulses, meaning rears ensor failure couldn't get the bloody thing out so I bought a second hand caliper bracket, complete with working sensor via fleabay for £20. Fitted it at the lock up this morning and now lights back to normal. A clip had snapped on the brake line that held the wire to the sensor, so it was hanging loose and when I braked hard it got trapped between the swing arm and the exhaust which shredded it 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

fastbob Posted August 20, 2023 Share Posted August 20, 2023 Just went out and rode mine around Warwickshire ( HS2 permitting ) A lovely warm, dry evening with very little traffic . Just me and the big , beautiful Harley . Never looked down at the dash once , just riding by feel and sound and changing gear occasionally more for something to do than anything else . I'm really dialled into this bike now and loving every mile of it . ( Thanks again Ian ) Another bonus is that wherever I stop , there's always something beautiful to look at .
