I should add , in case anyone missed it , that these accessories came with the bike when Ian bought it and do not reflect his taste as they do not reflect mine . That said , I may try the screen next season if I've got motorway miles to do . It only takes seconds to fit or remove . The panniers , although of good quality and of a leading make are deceptively small and wil not accept any of my very compact  camping gear . The quick release backrest , despite its rather gothic appearance , is ideal for supporting a large roll bag in just the right position to provide a comfortable back support . All I need now are some leather tassels , footboards and of course a skull fender ornament .

checked it was still there.. and surprisingly (actually not) it was.

Tax is due on the 31st, but being a bit of a rebel.. (me?). I'm not going to tax it until the 5th as that suits my finances better. I did this last time just the same and I did get a snotty letter, but it told me to ignore it if I had already taxed the bike.. so I happily binned it.

16,000 mile service is coming up and frankly I can't be bothered with most of it. Its a biggie (major) and I'm looking forward to the looks on the face of the dealership chappie when I tell him exactly what I want him to do and NOT do.

specifically. the valves should be checked. NO. the spark plugs should be checked. NO.

Air filters changed. YES. I will provide them. I'll probably order them next week. £25 for the pair.

Oil and both filters changed. YES.

the rest is just inspections.. no big deal.

the main difference will be the bill. less than £160 vs. £800+ so expensive because getting to the valves is a very time consuming task. so Im ignoring that until the spark plugs are due to be changed and as they will be doing almost the same amount of dismantling, they can look at the valves then. At 32,000 miles.

Today my bike was serviced, and whilst that was happening, I got a test ride of the Royal Enfield Scram. With a whole 24hp, it is a long time since I rode anything with that little power. If we had lots of green lanes in Scotland, I could see the point, but we don't. It was also odd riding a bike with no rev counter. However, it looks good and it was fun to ride, very light and easy to get on with.

Changed the fork oil in the Bandit. Then gave it a good going over with the ACF50.

Gave the V a wash with muckoff

Cleaned and oiled the chain

Checked the lights and indicators and brake lights

Checked the tyre pressure

While on the paddock stand I put some cardboard under the bike and put in gear and spun the wheel to sling off the excess oil then cleaned the rear tyre again

Unclogged the drain holes in the swingarm and sprayed in some gt85 to lubricate the chain adjustment bolts

Ran it up to temp then let it cool down and covered it back up as we are expecting som muck weather over the next few days :-)

Not entirely sure it was a wise move. I like the S1KR, thisnk it's a stunning looking bike, however it's a tad to clinical for me, i rarely have the urge to just get out on it. When it's like that you know its time for a change. (Plus the full system i put on is just too bast*rd loud and i cant be arsed to change it back.

So i went for a brand-spanking new GSA. After the tour in france earlier this year i knew i wanted one. Have a few trips planned next year so it makes sense. Plus there ist he added benefit of no chain maintenance.

Maybe i'll regret it. I had my pants ripped down for the trade in price, too.

It's naughty when dealers don't give a good price on a trade in. Similar issue when I traded the tracer 900 for the africa twin. People I bought from offered a stupid trade in another dealer offered an extra 700 and said they knew they could sell it, sure as anything it sold a week later. Used prices are still high atm

Never heard of that before.  Is that a thing on all bikes?

Now that's the multi million dollar question

Certainly on the Versys 650 there are drain holes on either side of the swing arm

The one on the left is small about 3-4 mm and gets clogged quite easily

What happens then is the chain adjustment bolts that screw in to the end of the swing arm are sitting in a puddle of water and they corrode

Both snapped off on mine first time I tried to adjust the chain

I really want to get out and clear my head, but with the roads aroud me covered in wet leaves I don't fancy chancing it.

Every day's a school day! 😀

I'll look for them on the Interceptor!

None on mine!

Its meant to be all sealed and watertight to stop moisture getting to the drive shaft

Taxed it, which was wildly exciting. so much so that I had to lie down in a darkened room and think about the ins and outs of torque wrenches.

S'alright. Had one myself back in the day.

Maybe, just maybe, I'll get myself that dream Guzzi and be free of the chain once again.

Well, yesterday rather than today.

washed, waxed & ACF50’d the mighty Speedtriple before tucking it up for winter under its cover and fitting it’s Optimate.
