Well… that was f**king horrible.

Dumped 5 times, all very low speed or stationary. Panniers and crash bars took the brunt.

Nightmare.

I can only assume that you had no choice in the matter but for goodness sake be careful . Those conditions are life threatening and you've only got one life .

The days when I had to ride in snow are thankfully past. I still remember getting home and my visor had frozen shut. I wear glasses so I couldn't get my helmet off and it had misted up as soon as I walked into the house. My wife found me fully kitted up standing in the shower trying to defrost the visor hinges.

Top tip for riding in snow, don't just wipe the snow off your visor like you usually do with rain. Push it back past the hinges.

I got rear ended when I was stopped I'm traffic a few weeks ago.

Insurance assessor said it's a write off.

So what I did today was watch my bike get wheeled into a van and taken away to the scrap heap. 😭😭

Probably be for sale next week on SBF.

Was it an uneconomical repair or frame damage?

I got rear ended and was declared a write off as uneconomical to repair.  Bought it back for £500 and repairs cost me £100. I was quids in.

All the plastics and all the lights need replacing. The housing for the headlight too. Engine casing needs to be replaced as there's a couple deep scars. Mirrors, levers, rear brake pedal and connection bust, exhaust destroyed, pipes bent, rear wheel would need fixing or replacing. I think labour costs for all that would be the killer. The bikes second hand and 11 years old so only worth £4-5k so it becomes uneconomical to fix very quickly. Plus it would be a cat n bike so hard to sell or get a decent price afterwards.

Ah that's a lot more damage than mine. Couple of scratches on the fairing, which already had a scratch or two, and the tank. And it was the cost to replace and paint these which was the killer. Not bothered about the insurance classification as I have already got the value of the bike in the payout.

I'm just in the middle of an argument with my insurance, they have concluded beyond economical repair. I asked for their list of repairs to cross ref against mine, apparently it seems someone has damaged my petrol tank between collecting and delivering the bike to their repair specialist 😡

That's crazy, they should be taking the hit on that repair.

I'm ok enough, no broken bones. Just a perpetual headache and damaged wrist. Getting treatment through insurance. I'm with MCE who have surprisingly been good at getting things sorted

If I went to the doctors every time my wife said I was acting weird I'd be living there.

Look after yourself. Good to hear MCE are stepping up and getting you sorted. My Solicitor is useless. 😀

As temperatures have dropped here to a rather cold 20C I took the opportunity to get some much needed refurbishment done to the brakes and wire some additional USB outlets along with extra lights and a couple ofGo-Pro mounts in preparation for when the weather gets warmer.

Stripped front & rear calipers along with front master cylinder to give them a repaint and fitted new seals & pistons all round. Wired in a USB outlet to dashboard along with 2 to the rear topcase, 1 externally, for the use by "she who shall be obeyed", Kindle & phone etc and 1 inside the case for connection of Go-Pro battery chargers.

Whole project has taken around 10 days to complete not helped by the interference of the feline supervisor who decided to take up residence on the seat when I stopped for a tea break.

Went for test ride to cafe nearby and couldn't resist taking photo of these 2 parked outside, "only in Tunisia"

Just went out for an hour long ride, as the salt has gone and whilst the road surface was damp, it was otherwise dry. I still think it is the best way to maintain a bike over winter and to just use it as much as you can, looking for gaps in the bad weather.

Went out on the MT07 this morning, first ride since being knocked off the KTM. A little 40 mile round trip to the church yard to lay some flowers and a pot in the memorial gardens of my mother and father and my grandparents. Now off out with the wife and youngest for some food and a nice bottle of red wine. :thumb:

Summoned up some energy to wheel the bike outside and give it a clean down. Not been using it but I've dried it all down and I'll wait for another dry day to run the acf over it through the paint sprayer and go over any bits missed by hand. Hopefully I'll be back on it by March at the latest I'm sure the roads will still be salty by then, it has driven me stir crazy bit to be able to ride it. I've not even cranked the engine over left it on the trickle charger and put fuel stabiliser in it. I know some say firing it up for a few minutes just encourages moisture in the bike as it doesn't get hot enough to burn it all off. Onwards and upwards for the new year I say!

Went into shed.  Turned VFR ignition on. Pressed starter.  Whirr whirrrrrrr click. 🤨

Removed seat and stuck a voltmeter across the battery terminals.  12.7v.  Stuck it on the charger for a couple of hours.  Pressed the starter whirr whiirrrr click.

Put the voltmeter on .. 12.8v.  Pressed the starter... Voltage sagged to 9.5v.  Battery knackered.  It was ok a couple of weeks ago, but this is how they seem to go these days.  Sudden death.

Order for a Yuasa YTX12 BS has been placed...

Gave it a good coating of ACF with the paint sprayer followed with a spray of techcote acs on the bits that needed more detail. I'll put some ACF grease on some of the fasteners later in the week. Had a go with the techcote as it gets v good reviews via a Bennetts long term test.

I used to commute 140 miles each way to work all year round on the motorbike from Sheffield to Dereham in Norfolk.

I would set off at 0430hrs each day and arrive at the Mess about 0730hrs. In winter I would often stop outside the Mess main entrance and a member of the household staff would bring me a cup of coffee out to my bike ... with me frozen to the seat !!

Half the coffee was drunk, Thank you Ladies, the other half was poured into my crotch to un freeze me ....😁
