I like Saudi Arabia stile, cutting off hands for stealing, cutting off heads for murder.

it is bit on the hard side but it works.

let’s be serious

if punishment for crime is effective than crime will disappear or go to minimum.

otherwise Wild West everyone is judge and juri

Of 190 ranked countries in the world the UK is 20th for sending people to prison, just a smidge under Costa Rica.

We like sending people to prison, we do it a lot and are world renowned for it. We’re also known for the inhuman living conditions inside our prisons, recently a judge in the Netherlands refused to extradite a drug smuggler to the UK because our prisons are “inhumane and degrading” so don’t worry on the world stage we’re doing pretty well on the knee jerk retribution front.

There you go, just a little something to get all you hang ‘em and flog ‘em brigade foaming at the mouth. Your welcome 😂🤣😂🤣

Interested to know what your source for the UK  prison rate is as the attached link shows a rather different statistic?

Not saying mine is right but lies, damned lies and statistics springs to mind!

I think the error has come from a misreading of this chart, showing prison population per 100,000, from statista.com:

image.png.edd1e1ce922d360cad3d5be59bc1f1ce.png

which puts Anguilla in 20th place and adds (United Kingdom) as it's a UK colony.

This chart was for June 2020. The UK reported 79865 prisoners in June 2020 (down from 84000 in pre-covid February*) which equates to an estimated 118 per 100,000.

I'd noticed that and had wondered. Anguilla has a miniscule population (15,003) so its actually amazing they have a prison at all.

Oops 😆 Made the mistake of asking my husband if he could remember the stats, it didn’t cross my mind it was wrong.

This is what I was thinking of - We are the worse in Europe
Here’s the article link

He made have done that on purpose 🤬.... he finds it highly amusing if he can get me to believe something that’s not true. Its extra points if the dupe repeats it to someone else so he’ll be pleased with that one 🙄
He once had me believing Josie Jump from Balamory (a children’s tv programme) is a porn star, he let me believe that one for over a year 😆
Excuse me I have to go n get laughed at...

I would happily go with 3 strikes rule and then life without parole.

So you would want someone locked up for life if their third strike was stealing a tin of beans?

It caused an interesting conversation at lunch. Cos how long can someone stay in the red mist for?
Its kinda regarded as the moment the rage overwhelms someone and the violence begins and finishes. Quite a short period really but is there an extended version if you’re chasing after someone? As animals we’re have the chase and kill thing going on so when did this guy know what he was doing? My son said Chimpanzees show similar rage responses to us and are one of the few species like us that will chase over distance out of their territory purely due to rage - although I’m now dubious about anything I’ve been told today! So which bits did he do deliberately?
I watched the footage he chased him quite far and waaaay over the speed limit in built up areas, he was lucky it was emptyish. I couldn’t help but think, Christ it’s just stuff and insured stuff at that, not worth anyone’s life.

Life in Prison for stealing a tin of beans?

So what do you think the punishment should be for those in high public office who abuse their powers and systematically asset-strip the country?

They would have to do it 3 times then same as Mr Bean, life.

See what I did there 😂

I commented on this over on the Triumph Forum, which if I'm honest I knew I should have just left when I decided that I didn't really like the place. Anyway, I posted a comment saying that the little scrotes were clearly scum but that I still didn't agree that vigilante killings were an acceptable form of punishment  for theft.

I was rounded upon immediately, the most popular response to my post being the one that called me a "limp-wristed, poncey, noncey weasel". :classic_blink:

I think we can agree to disagree on this forum without falling out, usually :classic_biggrin:

I don't think speeding after someone and deliberately knocking them off in a way very likely to kill them is a reasonable and proportionate response to your bike being stolen.

That's essentially saying if someone steals from you you should be able to execute them.. where do you draw the line? If someone takes your TV should you chase them down and beat them to a pulp with a baseball bat? What level of crime equates to your life now meaning nothing?

Yes being a victim of theft sucks, I've had two motorbikes stolen and it made me furious and the idea the thief might crash into a ditch seemed pretty appealing, but it's not a solution.

People don't commit theft for no reason, it's symptomatic of our unequal society and the environment they grow up in.

One reason people steal is simply because they can and know the chances of being caught are negligible and if they do get caught punishment is a slap on the wrist. I'm not rich but I've never thought of stealing someone else's stuff. I work for everything I own. Face it some people are just born rotten.
