Just a thread to defuse and vent off a bit.

People who don't indicate on roundabouts bugs me today people tend to do a breakaway indication when they are actually leaving the roundabout no Indicating when turning right etc. It's not hard and I'm sure they know where they are going but I'll be f****d if I know where they are going! Same as those who indicate when they have already started making the turn, come on it's not difficult!

My wife gets mad at me when i'm a passenger as she only indicates when she feels its necessary. I reach over and operate the lever for her

Parents on the school run who park across driveways with the excuse they're only there for a few minutes.

But when three or four of them do it successively we can't get in or out for half an hour at a time. Twice a day.

And when you remonstrate with one all the others feel it's their mission to join in and poke their nose into something that's got nothing to do with them.

What they forget is that the rear gate to the school is permissive access across my land. If they keep annoying me they'll lose the permission to use that gate.

If I did that I would be walking the rest of the way and probably locked out by the time I get home, from ED having been patched up for the injuries she inflicted.

No further explanation needed,  they become moronic.

The same parents that complain about speeding for an hour before or after school are immune to any laws or decency.

Today I am walking the dogs and going to work, I will wait until 0845 to leave to walk the dogs so parents have gone.  I will leave for my 2 mile drive to work 5 minutes earlier as I pass 2 schools at letting out time…

Even when I did the school run with my daughter living 3 miles away I drove.  Then I would take my post, laptop and read my mail and email in the car park for 30 minutes to avoid arriving with the other parents.

Then you get the parents who’s power base is an after school activity, never interfere…

The whole school run thing is a nightmare I try and avoid the roads at that time everyone leaves their brain at home

I used to be a Beat Officer in Worcestershire, every term the Head of the local middle school would copy loads of letters I'd formatted warning them of parking issues and that fact I will give out tickets for non compliance. Even reminding them the manager of the local co op will happily let them park on the car park it's a 2 minute walk away. Guess what they all ignored it and yes u have them tickets and yes they would get angry, one even thought it would be a good idea to try and punch me. I shudder to think what would happen now that was in 2006.

I used to work near two schools, but my hours meant I missed all the stupidity of rush hour and school run until I got called in as emergency  cover to set the machines.

All the usual numpties were out, dropping their little darlings off, double parking, etc but the most stupidest thing was the woman in a Chelsea tractor that I had the misfortune of being stuck behind just stopped in the line of moving traffic and three doors opened and a bunch of kids got out. There was no attempt at moving over and parking, or even use of mirrors,  and if had not been paying attention I would have hit the one that ran behind the car to cross the road to the school- she had just stopped directly opposite the school gate.

School run parking/drop off issue is so bad where I live we now have resident parking only zones, still does not stop them parking outside, normally with diesel engine still running any time after 14.30

I once said if I was a driving instructor (no chance would I want that job!!) I would make sure my students had to drive around the local schools during drop off/pick up time.

They would certainly learn about erratic drivers, watching for hazards, clutch control in slow moving traffic, emergency braking...........

My rant is road based. Pedestrians who never bother looking before crossing a road. It's almost routine at this point for me when I'm approaching a junction or side road I want to turn into and I see a person walking on the path.

"are you going to look?, are you? of course not"  beeeeeeeeppppppp!!!!!

This is a gentle rant really.

The company I work for has a lot of point scorers, shall we say. They love to rattle off reasons why you did something very wrong, CC everyone into the e-mail so they can see. Lately I've been dragged into meetings with benign names, that turn out to be ambushes. The issue is, when you point out why they are making things personal, and lay out what caused the issue, they may be very amicable at the time, but now they have a grudge.

The most recent set has been...

1. Ambushed in a meeting asking why various panels hadn't been commissioned. Tried to pin it on me. They didn't realise I wasn't the lead engineer on the job, just tidying it up. They realised they were trying to blame the guy who was there to find and fix the missing bits.

2. Got told a design was insufficient for controlling a water circuit. I'd only accounted for temperatures and flow data to control the pumps (normally all you need). The panel had to be botched to match a design spec. Was let off when it transpired that I was pushed to design the panel to meet construction deadlines, and the design spec came about 2 months after it was built and installed... So less of me not following a design spec, more of me doing what we usually did until it came out.

3. This week, got asked why I was seemingly doing nothing to make sure a powergen unit wasn't ready to make hot water, and connect with the waste heat steam boiler. They hadn't looked at the drawings I did 3-4 months ago, already had the info on there. They had it in their heads it would only be setup for powergen, however I wired it for everything, and told the software team to just ignore that stuff until it was needed. I was actually ahead of schedule, being told I was holding the job up...

*sigh*

Sounds like a pretty poisonous work environment. Worst we have to put up with is invidious comparisons between sister ships and their respective performances. Rarely take into consideration such variables as weather, local port regulations, cargo specific restrictions such as viscosity / density etc. So often end up comparing apples to oranges and thus pretty pointless but beloved of the Big Data addicts.

Worst environment I worked in was at a jewellers.

I loved working there for the first few years. I went from being a Christmas temp to the deputy manager with an opportunity to run my own store which regrettably didn't happen.

The issues began when we were pushed into using high pressure sales tactics. It just isn't me and wasn't what our customers wanted. Case in point was when our area manager came in and "persuaded" a regular customer to buy a £300 necklace.

He was very braggadocios about the sale but we never saw that lady again. Before that she would come in every 2 or 3 weeks and buy something smaller, around £30 to £40 usually. She had been scared off coming again.

The worst was when they introduced accidental damage insurance policies. Each staff member had to sell a minimum of 5 per day

"For just £4.99 you can insure this £10 pair of earrings for 1 year against accidental damage"

I saw the writing on the wall when I got a phonecall from head office asking how the day had gone. "Not bad at all, we just sold a £2000 diamond ring and it's not even lunch time!"

The response was " did you sell the cover on that and how many policies have you done so far?" :bang:

You can only do what you can do. Unfortunately some people try to make a name for themselves in such scenarios and are great at pointing out things but aren't 'doers' as I call them. Without the doers those in the ivory tower would be up the creek. You know you do a good job just keep doing your best and save a sarcastic smile for the said w*****s on their way up the ladder, they may need you on their fall back down one day.

I had to come up with a new set-up on a roll forming mc. A new client wanted a narrower joist with a larger radius on a turn-over, which gives the joist rigidity, and a lower dimension to the side wall. I worked it all out, using the steel dimensions for our standard set-up, adjusting them to create the correct job specs. I then had a set of spacers made that allowed all the formers to be adjusted without having to measure every one reducing setting time. I showed the results to the shop forman, who looked at my work and said it was wrong and I need to go back to the drawing board. All I said to him was think of where the datum point is, and walked off before he could reply. The fist trial run I did the job came out bang on, but the forman was conspicuous by his absence😁

Driving standards have certainly gone down the pan. I don't let these things get to me anymore, I assume everyone on the road is a moron anyway and trust no-one 😃

Not sure if a beat Officer is the new description for the local bobby. The good old days, back in the mid to late 70s and early 80s we had a village bobby who lived in the police house. He was pretty cool, he would creep up on us drinking in the park and say to us, I don't want to be called back here tonight, so think on or you'll get a bloody good hiding and I'll drag you home kicking and screaming 🤣 🤣. In those days you had respect for the bobby.

@billy sugger I must admit I did do before after spending a lot of time driving my Wife's car which had automatic headlights. Mine does not.

Driving home when an oncoming car started flashing at me. I automatically looked at my speed and was on the lookout for a speed trap  Was a few minutes down the road before it clicked as to why he was doing it

Idiots that drive at night with no lights on. Surely they can see the road is dark in front of them?

Apart from being absolute dullards, I don't think the manufacturers help. I'm sure my old car had daytime running lights, dash lit up giving the impression lights are on, but no lights at the rear unless you manually turned them on or it was set to auto, they also cant see the road ahead because they are probably looking at faceshite on their phone. :thumb:
