  1. I'm all for DIY provided it's not me doing it as I effing detest it. I can be driven to painting with whips and chains but beyond that I will not go.
  2. As it was my last ride before I return to sea I rode the scenic route from Morpeth to Barnard Castle- Belsay, Chollerford, Hexham, Blanchland, Stanhope, Middleton in Teesdale, Barnard Castle. The ride over the moors was great, clear blue skies and dry roads. Sadly when I got to Barney I then had to thoroughly wash the thing as it was filthy as well as salty and clean / lube the chain before tucking it up for the next 4 months or so. Boo.
  3. If you are going to tour you will want luggage of some kind. I've no idea of the difference in power between your options but my 950 (which is actually 937) gives me 113 hp and on real roads that's quite enough to keep me entertained and can easily achieve licence losing speeds. Try both and go for whatever you feels suits you the best.
  4. I've not got one but I believe the key thing about the Shark is that in the open position the chin bar is 180 degrees back so is flush with the neck and thus has no sail effect.
  5. Sounds like yours is related to mine. Not from Corbridge is she?
  6. Just today I rode 300 miles. Took me 5.5 hours at an average speed of 54 mph. However my max. speed was somewhat in excess of that and some bloody fink installed on my bike would not be welcome.
  7. Evening all. Woke up to snow but had all melted by the time I left at 0900. Unfortunately between Stroud and Bourton it hadn't melted so spent a tense hour negotiating lanes covered in slush and getting splattered by lorries going the other way. Poor bike ended up filthy. From Stow it was okay and enjoyed the Fosse Way. After Leicester it was all a bit blah though so hit the A1 and pegged it.
  8. Prepping my bike for tomorrow's trek to Northumberland. Probably snow, based on recent experience. Hey ho.
  9. When they can produce a 16 oz T-bone that cooks rare and bloody and tastes of beef but isn't animal based then I MAY consider that stuff but until then they can go and do the traditional to a rolling donut. Basically I don't like militants / fanatics of any shape or form and most (but not all) vegans fall into that category.
  10. Buy yourself a 20 m3 container tank and start stocking up now.
  11. I've got a weird shaped head which is basically broad and square. I find Schuberth helmets fit me really well but if I found something that fitted me better I'd certainly give it a go. I've never got an Arai to fit.
  12. I'll ride in any weather though I prefer it not to be wet. I live in the west and tbh could do with a bit more rain for the garden. Heading north on Monday- if the weather is reasonable I'll go the scenic route; if its crap hammer up the motorway (the length of time of being miserable is less).
  13. Must read the handbook for the wife's car sometime. Trouble is the main one is only on line and I just can't be bothered. Driven it well enough for 3 years.....
  14. On Monday I'm going north probably to camp on my parents' floor while I try and get them some support care sorted. If it drags on then I'll decamp to my daughter's place as she won't be there but it's 60 odd miles so a longish commute and if the weather is crap prone to snow.
  15. Yet another example of utter inconsistency. Presumably a camping ground with a shared toilet block for folks in tents is a no go but presumably caravans etc with their own internal toilet facilities are OK. At the same time most public toilets in my areas are open so what exactly is the difference? Wild camping has always required more basic sanitation but is it allowed? Used to camp in places like Kielder forest often. Nobody ever knew we were there.
  16. I had just that the other day coming out of Gloucester. I filtered up past an Audi TT at some traffic lights on the A40 ring road. This obviously upset him as he accelerated hard to get ahead of me so I tucked in behind him at 70 mph and watched him zoom off into the distance to be clocked by the camera van that's there about 3 times a week. He would probably have been doing 90 at that point. I caught up with him at the next roundabout where he was a bit more subdued.
  17. So sorry to see that and even sorrier I didn't notice it in your earlier post. Another victim of this bloody plague even if indirectly.
  18. I've had similar issues with booking.com. They can be good but I've found I can often get as good a deal by contacting the hotel / owner directly. Sometimes a better deal too, and often get treated better as well.
  19. As has been said many times before - always assume every other vehicle on the road is trying to personally get you and you won't go far wrong. Round here you can also throw in horses and pedal bikes.
  20. Bummer there. In normal times a decent place for breakfast believe it or not is Gloucester Services on the M5 North or South. Other than that can't really help as living here I don't tend to eat breakfast out.
  21. We got a very brief flurry in late morning. By 1500 the temperature was 12 C. Tonight is around zero supposedly.
  22. Where the hell are these tourists staying? Everything's bloody shut. I heard the same news and sometimes I'd like to know the source of the info.
  23. I think you misunderstood me. My point is why would the government want to or need to control the population in general regardless of covid. What is the benefit to the government? This in response to those who think "they" are out to get us. Personally I don't think that. Yes I do think there has been and still is a degree of flailing around sometimes just to be seen to be doing something. But malice aforethought? No, just incompetence.
