I really think you’ve missed the point. I’m sure Google can be your friend but there again I doubt you can be bothered just to discover you don’t know what you’re talking about. Just because you haven’t bought the same ‘petrol’ that some F1 teams were using doesn’t mean that it didn’t exist. That’s the point despite being so unlike the petrol we know it was still petrol. Petrol with additives in, including E10 is still petrol. 1 Quote
Bender Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Luckily non of us have access to f1 petrol, f1 did however ban refueling during pitstop due to the associated fires they had and the risks involved, stupid them they should have stuck with non flammable petrol, the budget for f1 far exceeds that of the average motorist, they can add whatever they like to reduce det, it has nothing to do with pump fuel. Carry on with your digs and insults tho there's not much on TV. 1 Quote

I’m just replying to people who seem to think that they’re making clever points which don’t actually do or prove anything. If it helps my comments about F1 and petrol was in response to a smart as comment suggesting that by adding ethanol the product somehow wasn’t petrol. That was incorrect. Quote

Ok here's google for you at the time Renault started using rocket fuel This came at a price – the fuels contained around 80% toluene and were poisonous and enormously expensive, costing up to USD $300 per litre at the time. At the time f1 fuel was supposed to match that of pump fuel 102 octane, I had a rover then that had a warning to only use 100 octane minimum, that was definitely flammable. toluene is very flammable ICSC 0078 - TOLUENE. Highly flammable. Vapour/air mixtures are explosive. NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking. Quote

Well there's not much that will burn in the absence of oxygen. Its why we have a whole plant devoted to ensuring there's no oxygen in our tanks. Once got hold of some solid fuel rocket propellant and by god did that ever burn. 1 Quote

I don't understand why the manufacturers do it that way. The CBF has a huge hole straight into the tank, the Bobber has a plate inside the filler but the hole is large enough to get the nozzle into the tank. But my mates have to stand with the nozzle held off the plate because the hole is smaller than the nozzle. If you stick the nozzle in the hole as soon as you give it more than a trickle the pump shuts off. I have to hold it against the lip of the opening and fill up slowly Quote

S-Westerly Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 (edited) Harleys are supposed to be for dinosaurs. I kind of fancy the new Pan American though. Not sure if it'll be happy with E10 though and I'll have to start recording how much fuel I use to get out of the Mesozoic. Edited October 9, 2021 by S-Westerly 1 Quote
Mr Fro Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Now then now then children, settle down. All this naughty behaviour is going to end up in tears and possibly a flounce (taking bets now). Let's all calm down and recall that ultimately, on the internet, no-one really gives a shit about your opinion. 3 Quote
