I have one who walks his dog about 300 times a day!

If I am out washing the bike its the same conversations all the time usually

Nice bike.........BMW eh.......very nice. Then walks off!

Or

Nice bike....can you pop a wheelie on it? and just carries on walking!

I think he is loosing it to be honest as I have stood and talked to him a fair few times and its always the same questions and its as if he has never seen the bike before too

Or his dog by the sounds of it…

Typical bloody green hypocrites so no surprise there.

We used to live in a village in Oxfordshire. There was no bus service so everyone had cars, except our climate warrior neighbours who refused to have a car and criticised everyone who did.

Which didn't stop them asking us for a lift every time they needed a lift to the shops or had to take one of their many offspring to the doctor's.

I live in the same town as one of the founders of Extinction Rebellion- Gail Bradbrooke. See her around occasionally.  By all accounts an intelligent person but with the common sense of a dead frog. Highly educated and oh so middle class. Yet she sees no problem with driving a large diesel vehicle to get her kids around while at the same trying to stop the rest of us just getting on with our lives. In 2016 she flew to Costa Rica to chill out on weird substances but we can't take our families to the Med for a holiday. Complete cognitive dissonance.

There is often a disconnect between intelligence and common sense, sometimes it's quite an alarming gap.

Good grief you're right. From Wikipedia

Quote

In August 2021, Bradbrook acknowledged that she drives a diesel car. Citing a lack of suitable public transport and the high cost of electric vehicles, Bradbrook stated that she needed the vehicle to drive her children to sports matches.

My gob is smacked.

One of the odd things about modern life is the number of people who take to some form activism, seemingly as way out of the agonising nihilistic despair of consumer shopping and watching daytime TV. It's as if they need something to fill a gap in their lives and they find activism simply because it gives their lives a purpose. It really doesn't matter what they're campaigning for (Bradbrook herself has hopped from one good cause to another, to another) as long as they can convince themselves that their calling is a great and mighty one.
The sad thing is I just roll my eyes and switch off and end up becoming even more cynical than I was before I heard about them.

Either that or they become serial complainers.

A former friend of mine is a very active member of Extinction Rebellion in Abingdon but he drives a milk tanker for a living . It seems to have gone right over his head that the dairy industry is a way to dispose of the unwanted byproducts of the beef industry , the gaseous byproducts of which are apparently destroying the ozone layer .

Exactly ! Especially if you knocked around with these people back in the day when they were Bikers . I stupidly thought we'd all be still riding together but one of my old mates is an ER activist and one is even a vegan with an electric car !

When I was about 16, my dad had a BMW K1200S, we lived opposite a neighbour who set his house alarm off at around 6:30am at least once a week when he woke up. He was a teacher, and a cyclist, and he perfectly fit the stereotype of being really patronising, so you can imagine what he was like when asked to sort out the alarm situation. My dad let the bike idle on a couple of weekends when checking it over before a big run, 5-10 minutes, and one weekend we saw this guy glaring over, the second on Sunday at about 11:30am he comes storming over. And the exchange is just burned in my memory forever.

Julian: Don't you think it's inappropriate to be running that up all the time, and early in a morning?

Dad: *stares at him deadpan for a few seconds* And when was the last time I ran it up?

Julian: (smugly) Last weekend

Dad: Right, so we've established what you mean by "all the time"...

Julian: Well it's not very considerate is it?

Dad: And your alarm going off usually 4 or 5 hours earlier than this is fine is it?

Julian: *huffs and starting to walk away* Well the difference is it doesn't make the road sound like a council estate

Dad: Well it's a good thing you're not bigoted.

What made it so funny, is the guy was difficult with his other neighbours, very "holier than thou", and a teacher, so to get so quickly trounced on his technical point, and then called a bigot was just ear porn

I reckon we pretty much are the annoying neighbours! :classic_biggrin:

We have 2 cars a caravan and a campervan and the bike(s). I work nights so come and go at strange times.

We've been known to have the odd loud party, even bikers in tents in the garden on occasion

We try to be considerate and actually get on really well with our neighbours but I don't think I'd want to live next to us :classic_biggrin:

One of our neighbours is really annoying. Runs loud vehicles round all day, skidding, backfiring, lots of bikers and cars always going too and fro. Helicopters going backwards and forwards.

But to make up they let us play with all their toys on the track from time to time and give us a slap up dinner in their hospitality area every December.

As long as it's not early morning stuff, that's a pretty good arrangement!

My latest neighbours have cottoned on to what I do for a living, everywhere I live I end up next to someone elderly, in fact in my last house, I quickly found out the elderly woman that lived next door was the mid-wife who delivered me! Small world!

But I've always offered to help with things around the house so they don't get taken advantage of. Like electricians charging £120 to swap an oven lightbulb that took me 5 minutes.

Now I'm in a block of 6 flats, and I have an elderly woman below me that I've helped with all sorts, but she's told the others in the building I can change light fittings, diagnose problems with cars and so on. So I now get a knock on the door every week, often to sort out laptops or computer issues because they assume electrical engineers can work on anything with wires poking out of it

Wouldn't call it annoying, but a strange arrangement has definitely formed without any consent from me. I now get cooked meals and freshly baked cakes left at my doorstep, most of which I just give to my girlfriend.
