Not nice, horrible bike. Felt like a toy, bad riding position, so vibey my hands still hurt.

Order cancelled, sorry chaps!

Refers to our earlier thread about honest journos as I think the write ups on this bike are okay? Hurting hands is decidedly not pleasant.

Rode mine to South Shields which wasn't too bad until I got to Chester le Street where the traffic was dire. Did a lot of filtering after that and reminded myself why I have job with no commuting which I bloody detest. Been 20 years since I was in canny Shields.

To be fair a mate has one and others have ridden them and do love them. But yeah, I can't be the only person who doesn't, and all journos surely can't either.

To keep the salesman happy I let him keep my deposit for the new mt10 when that comes out. If I like it I might buy it instead. I liked my old one. We'll see.

Can't remember what you had before the MT10, but a V twin is going to feel very rough after that and the GSXR. I've never ridden a KTM - they're all too tall for me 😭 - but they're not known for being smooth.

Worst vibes I had was from the S1000XR. Some people get on fine with theirs, others hate it. I loved it apart from the vibes - it wasn't ever going to be a ride-me-all-day bike.

Booked it in for a clean and treatment by all year biker. I think.

I thought I’d splash a few quid out on getting the bike protected against the elements overwinter. The nearest operative is 50 miles away so I’ll get a bit of a ride in, too.

On the down side, you go through the whole process of setting up the booking and it’s only at the last moment you find that payment is by PayPal (a cash at time of treatment option is offered, but I thought I’d pay a deposit to secure the booking). I don’t use PayPal so when I stopped the transaction it still booked me in “subject to PayPal authorisation”.

I’ve had to email the operative to explain what’s happened and hope he can sort out the booking.

You can still use PayPal without having a PayPal account

My 600 is very vibey. I'm trying a different set of bar ends to see if they make a difference, but if not, has anyone ever heard of, or seen something to isolate the bars altogether, like rubber blocks, etc?

The engine is a stressed member, so can't really do anything with that

Replacement top yokes with handlebar clamps that include rubber isolation blocks are available for a lot of bikes.

I know for sure they are popular with KTM 600 owners so a KTM dealer may be able to point you in the direction of the right maker.

Changed the oil and filter on the Silverwing, last done about 18 mths ago.

Pretty surprised by the level of corrosion on the genuine filter, hadn't rusted through but would eventually.

Also went to change the rear disc and pads however the disc bolts were stuck fast and despite soaking in penetrating fluid, heat gun and smacking with a punch none of them would budge. Put it back together with the new pads and old disc and ordered some new bolts as they will need replacing after more persuasion by drilling or other means.

The last couple of days have been a bit of an eye opener for me. I don't use my bike for commuting (I don't commute) but I've been doing just that for the last couple of days. A couple of things have become obvious - my slow speed filtering and manoeuvring has improved as normally its something I don't do to any extent. The second thing is if God forbid I found myself having to commute there is no way I'd want to do it in a car. My fuel consumption has gone to rat shit though.

I started to fit a hugger. then it began to rain so I stopped. covered the bike and went back inside.

and looked at it through the French doors. monsewer.

I did do a little victory dance though as the job interview I had this morning was a resounding success. and the new place is a 10 minute walk from my front door. which makes me feel all warm and gooey inside. Bit pointless even cycling to work now. nice pay rise too. I shall have to start looking at Ohlins. and stuff.

Congrats @Gerontious. It's a nice feeling.

When I grow up I hope to have Ohlins on my mobility scooter, cos Ohlins mean faster bends.

Why do bikes have so much empty space at the rear?

Expand

It balances out the empty space inside of the (average) crash helmet.

now, where's my mirror.... oh, of course, its on the wall. I need to practice being vacuous morer and morer... try gazing vacantly into space, thinking about ferries to Norway.

and that.

The worst bit is from Chester le Street to the top of the Bowes Incline. Shields itself because I'm actually going down to the Riverside bit isn't bad.

It may not be bad on a bike, in a van it's crap 😁 can be very dependent on time.
