Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Not another thread about E10 - but I was out today and our usual petrol station was closed due to lack of fuel. We managed to fuel up down the road but there were big queues. On the ride we came across several traffic jams all caused by queues building up on roads near petrol stations. I know the government are saying there isn't a problem and people should buy petrol normally but clearly the great British public is remembering the shortage of bog rolls and panic has set in. So now there is a shortage of petrol. What makes me mad is the filling stations who have hiked the prices up - one place was at £1.47 for unleaded. 1 Quote
Stu Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I wouldn't be surprised if the price of oil is about to plummet causing fuel prices to drop so they have caused people to panic buy at the higher price! Anyone who is panic buying is just adding to the problem 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Panic buying, be it bog roll or petrol creates a problem that doesn't actually exist. Quote

I would not say creates problem that don’t exist it creates problems that should never exist. Like me having to go to the petrol station 3 times today to get fuel, car was empty I have work tomorrow. It’s payday I always wait for payday to fill car up and try and make it last the month. Any excess miles have to be done by bike It also put an end to today’s run to Westbay for fish and chips, we could not get fuel! 1 Quote
Stu Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Top tip! If you want a good ride then go this weekend providing you have fuel There will be very little pricks on the road due to them too scared to go out and waste fuel 2 Quote
Throttled Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 The panic buying is turning a short lived localised problem into a national one that could run for weeks. I think part of the problem was all the media cries of "DON'T PANIC"! That obviously causes panic. 2 1 Quote
onesea Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I presently have 3 friends on FB posting as if this was there original photo… At least it’s local ish… One complaining there delivery, round normally takes 4 hours but took 9.5 because of fuel shortage… Not certain what is worse imagined shortage, or the complainers complaining I need my fuel I am more important than you! Waiting for someone to comment above I complained, I just changed my plans… Quote
Tiggie Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Perfect timing for me as I'm having to isolate for 10 days!! Hopefully things will of calmed down by time I need to fuel up 2 Quote
James in Brum Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Bloomin hypocrites, they could let the market sort it out, at worst support training or retraining and wages would rise. can’t have that for workers though! Quote

It's the early days of the pandemic "but I'm a key worker too" back again. So far on Facebook I've seen - it needs to be NHS only - but I'm a carer in a people's home - I do home visits - I'm a bus driver and need to get to work to drive other key workers tomorrow ... And before you knew it it was... - I'm meant to be delivering takeaways this weekend and if I'm not classed as a key worker then people will have to drive to the takeaway and use more (?) fuel - I'm a mobile hairdresser (my favourite so far) Quote
dynax Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 The petrol stations are partly to blame as they should have implemented restrictions straightaway on the filling of Jerry cans. 2 Quote

fullscreenaging Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Just been to Asda to fill the car. It was rammed at 8:15. Luckily as I got into the queue the tanker left and I nipped in. I don’t sit and wait for the pump that’s on the side of the filler like some morons do The fact they can’t work out you can fill up from both sides worries me they are actually on roads 1 Quote
Tiggie Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 That used to drive me mad when I worked at a station. Massive queue's everywhere and half the pumps were empty I was working at one during the 2012 tanker protests. We had signs up saying we had run out of fuel when in truth we had 500 litres left for emergency vehicles and staff 1 Quote
onesea Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 I love the opportunists trying it on: The other one round here has been gas cylinders with all the yachties and campers hitting the area. Gas has been of a premium and some of the asking prices for gas bottles and regulators have been stunning. Quote
dynax Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Called in to get my weekend shop and the road was virtually gridlocked, and having one lane coned off for roadworks at the Edenthorpe roundabout made it worse, The Great British Braindead at their best Quote
billy sugger Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 I don't quite understand why gas prices have shot up so much as to put small suppliers out of business. Same as a shortage of lorry drivers. What's happened to all those already here from the EU? Have they all just gone home. I know this is slightly off topic, but this country has loads of unemployed, probably including drivers put out of employment by cheap labour from elsewhere, so why not get them back to work Quote
Mickly Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 It’s Madness at the petrol stations 1 1 Quote

If everyone acted normally in this respect there might be the odd local delay !! I hope all the hoarders have stocked up on E10, it goes off & truly f*cks up their vehicles !! Better be some available tomorrow so I can fill up the mighty Speedtriple & piss off to Piston & Props at Sywell autodrome or I will not be happy 2 Quote
Pie man Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Been out early today (grass roots football) drove past 3 petrol stations, all the bogroll brigade are out, sad fookin petrol w**kers Quote
